FROSTIE

Lovely Frostie is a striking girl, who just joined us from a rural shelter, where she and her sister Tessie were surrendered by owners who could no longer care for them. At the tender age of two, Frosty began her rescue journey with high hopes that there is a forever family out there waiting for her.

Now three and a half years old, Frostie is a smart looking mix of Beagle with Catahoula Leopard dog. The saddle-like "leopard spot" markings across her back are are a stunning contrast to the rest of her reddish, flat coat. She almost looks as though she's dressed in haute couture! Frostie's coat is short and requires minimal grooming. The Beagle influence reduces her stature to about 30 pounds, a manageable size for home or apartment.

The double dose of working dog DNA gives Frostie finely honed instincts that should be channelled into productive activities. As a scent hound, Frostie is intrigued by the smells of nature, and loves to keep her nose to the ground during daily walks. A daily stroll for Frostie is a challenge to body and mind, as she gleefully processes all of the scent information that she encounters on route. Frostie's Catahoula roots contribute a work ethic, and need for purposeful activity. As part herding dog, Frostie needs exercise and mental stimulation to maintain her zone of good behavior.

Focused play and consistent obedience training are the best rule of thumb for channeling working dog instincts. Frostie has begun her Canine Good Citizenship training, and has grasped the basics beautifully. She is a well socialized, friendly dog, who is eager to please and poised to reach CGC certification in short order.

Frosty is a gentle, loving dog, who would do well with an active family, if everyone is on the same page about meeting her exercise and training needs. She would be a good choice for active families with older kids, or she would also do well in the active home of a single or couple, whose schedule allows time to meet her needs. She loves the outdoors and will thrive with active folks who enjoy a loyal, devoted companion on their adventures.

Frostie has good house manners, and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect the occasional accident as she transitions to a new home. Frostie is in excellent health, and has been spayed. Frostie is vaccinated for rabies, parvo, adrenovirus, distemper, coronavirus, leptopirosis, canine influenza, and bordatella. She has been dewormed, and has tested negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis.
