ZEUSThere is something about the Siberian Husky that speaks to our inner wild child. Our royal Zeus is a breathtaking boy, who embodies the grace and nobility that we love in this breed. Zeus came to us from an overcrowded Urban Animal Control facility, in the aftermath of his owner's personal meltdown. Unfortunately, owner surrendered dogs are only allowed 48 hours to impress shelter staff and volunteers who might reach out to rescue groups on their behalf. |
Clearly, it was a shock to Zeus' sensitive nature when he found himself in such a chaotic and precarious environment, after having enjoyed life in a cozy multi-dog home. He did not fare well in the shelter, and while volunteers gave him rave reviews, the vet staff were not his greatest fans. He came to us with a bit of a chip on his shoulder and seemed extremely sensitive around the head and neck signaling, perhaps, some abuse in his past. |
To make matters worse, Zeus was afflicted with a deep corneal abrasion, that required a couple months of eye drops and vet rechecks. This invasive vet process was very taxing for Zeus, but by the end of his treatment, he was completely desensitized, and now behaves beautifully at the vet. Nevertheless we choose to muzzle him as a precaution. |
Zeus is estimated to be four years old, and is a large 50 pound dog. He is a stunning red and white Siberian Husky, with iridescent blue eyes. His appearance is striking and unique. We consider Huskies a challenging breed, best served by experienced Husky folks, and Zeus is a typical Husky. He has not had much leadership in his former home, and is used to calling the shots. We found his Alpha wannabe vibe easy to redirect into an obedience sequence, and found him a joy to train. He does need a firm handler, willing to instruct family and friends on appropriate handling. Zeus is not a fan of the overzealous roughhouse play. In the right hands, Zeus is a Husky lovers dream come true. |
Zeus would be a fantastic companion to an active single or couple, who can provide a fair amount of exercise and leadership.Zeus would be a fantastic companion to an active single or couple, who can provide a fair amount of exercise and leadership. He would excel in an only dog home, whe he can bond deeply with his person. He does have some Dog Buddies here, and can get along with other dogs, but he will try to make his Alpha mark. He really doesn't care for small dogs with big attitudes, nor would he be a good choice for homes with cats or young kids. |
Zeus is housetrained and crate trained, although adopters should be prepared to troubleshoot house training accidents as he adjusts to new routine. Zeus is in excellent health, although at 50 pounds, he could put on 5 to 10 more to reach an ideal healthy weight. He has been neutered, and is up to date on routine shots and has tested negative for heartworm and tick borne disease.
