SNOWFLAKE

Our lovable ingenue Snowflake is a striking beauty. This sinewy girl joined us recently from a suburban shelter after spending some time roaming the area as a stray. Snowflake was wary of shelter workers at first, but warmed to human touch quickly, and soon became a staff and volunteer favorite.

Snowflake's shelter portrait

We were delighted to take Snowflake into our rescue, and she has adapted beautifully. Snowflake appears to be a white Husky, but we wouldn't be surprised if she has a good bit of Korean Jindo in her DNA mix. She is a medium sized, tall and graceful dog, weighing just 38 pounds. Despite the slightly squared jowel and broad skull that make us think Jindo, Snowflake has the classic Husky stance and appearance, with medium hazel colored eyes. Her soft, flat coat is pure white, with beige markings, and is easy to maintain.

Snowflake is a bit shy at first meeting, but warms quickly to gentle, patient touch. She is an affectionate girl, who needs an experienced Husky lover to help build her confidence through leadership and ongoing obedience training. Snowflake would do well with an active single or couple, who have the time to commit to her consistent training. We think an adult home would be the ideal fit for her. The overzealous attentions of small children, and the comings and goings of a busy household might overwhelm her.

Snowflake seems insecure in a dog pack, and while she has shown some relish in playing with some dogs, she has shown disdain to others. As an older puppy, her pack manners are not quite what they should be, so we think that she could do well in a multi-dog home, with savvy adopters, who know how to run a dog pack. Also, we feel that another well-trained, calm dog would be an excellent role model for her. She could also thrive as an only dog, but will need ongoing socialization and training to enjoy the dog park.

Snowflake is an athletic dog, with a high energy level, who requires a couple of vigorous leash walks a day, as well as focussed playtime. She would make the ideal running, walking or hiking companion. Snowflake has excellent stamina and endurance, and will thrive on physical activity, as well as one to one human interaction. Ongoing activity, structure and socializing will build Snowflake's confidence and quicken her bond to her people.

Snowflake has a natural affinity for obedience, and has learned her basic commands. She has passed some of her Canine Good Citizenship tests. Motivated adopters will be able to lead Snowflake all the way to Canine Good Citizen Certification. She has good house manners and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during her transition to a new home.

Snowflake is in good health, at the age of one and a half, at a good weight of 38 pounds. She has been recently spayed, has been vaccinated for rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus), and canine flu. She has been boostered as needed. She has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been dewormed.
