SIRIJust what makes that little old ant think she'll move that rubber tree plant. Everyone knows an ant can't move a rubber tree plant...but, she has high hopes...high, apple pie in the sky hopes. When I met our Siri, this old Frank Sinatra number lodged itself in my brain...because nothing entertains me like an Eskie Alpha Bitch with high hopes. And, I am, indeed, a fan of the Eskie Alpha Bitch. I have known and loved many. According to her foster mom, Cindy, Siri has so much life, and presence. She is the dream dog...so gorgeous and talented. Cindy thinks that she and Siri must be related. So, where to start with this beauty? Siri is a magnificent four year old, large miniature Eskie, weighing about 22 pounds. She is a natural athlete and would be a grand success at agility or obedience trials; clearly this smart, talented beauty needs a job!. At the very least, Siri needs a good deal of exercise and playtime to burn off some of her considerable energy. Prospective adopters should be seasoned Eskie folks who live an active lifestyle that can provide Siri with the daily exercise and mental stimulation that she needs. |
On first meeting, Siri reminded me of Aunt Pitty Pat, in Gone with the Wind, a premature dowager with her paw on the perpetual smelling salts. That is to say, she had a slight flair for the overly dramatic. Siri pitched a holy fit when her leash changed hands. She is used to getting her own way and seemed prone to histrionics when thwarted. Soon on the car ride back from New Hampshire, we became fast friends. She seemed relieved to have someone in charge. Seems that her high energy and alpha tendencies were left to blossom in her former home, where, ultimately, she became convinced that it was her job to discipline the crawling, newborn baby boy. Those new parents simply didn't have the time or focus to re-direct Siri's "SuperNanny" behavior and began to interpret her unwanted babysitting tendencies as aggression. Now, from the perspective of Eskie devotees, Siri is one heck of a treasure. Anyone who loves this breed will get endless giggles from this diva's antics, and will have the patience and tolerance to provide the exercise and discipline Siri needs to remain confident, yet restrained in her buttinsky behaviors. Here is Cindy's first report on Siri: |

Siri is the most "Eskie" Eskie I've met. She is a miniature Alpha bitch and really comfortable being in charge of everything. She was slightly shocked and had a few pee-ing accidents when she came to this boot camp. Since I'm with the dogs most of the time she is learning she is not only not the Alpha, she is about eight places down on my furry food chain. Her strengths as an Alpha are also a drawback to non-experienced Eskie owners. This isn't love, baby. Siri schmoozes to get her way. She is smart, beautiful and has big round brown eyes more like a cocker spaniel than Eskie. She loves to cuddle, jump up for attention and curl up in your lap every waking moment. She will also hold your arm or leg down which is a dominant trait, not love. Totally non-aggressive but controlling with the other dogs and my cats, she uses her body, pretty face, smile and tail wagging to shove her way into first place. She hasn't tried to dominant my two males as I suspect she feels they aren't worth the bother. She wants it all from her person on her terms. |
If she wants my attention, as the Alpha, I call the shots. All the dogs are put on "ignore" for hours at a time and they quickly learn fussing doesn't get them anything. Siri is very good about waiting now and stays quietly in the kitchen while I'm upstairs. Siri is learning and responding to sit, wait, stay, easy, back and down. She is beginning to recognize the hand signal for stop/wait and she will sit. Just sit...not sit and pee a little, like she did when she first arrived. If she wants my attention she does not jump but sits quietly near me. Siri is fine with my dog savvy cats and has started to play with my dogs since she does not have my full attention most of the day. |

Siri is a born athlete and circus performer. She is extremely high energy and requires a lot of daily exercise. Agility training would be perfect as she joyfully jumps straight up about four feet to go out. I've seen her do a backwards somersault! She loves heights. Balls, hard rubber toys or non-stuffed toys are perfect for her. She is a fast learner and seems to love learning. I would not recommend small children as she is so dominant and high energy they could be knocked down. She comes when called. She comes when she isn't called. She needs strong companionship and a leader. |
Siri is not food aggressive but taking treats from your hand is still a work in progress. She is really afraid she will miss a meal or treat. She scoots up until she is plastered to me, wiggles, shakes, pants, and then SNAP...the treat and your arm-to-the-elbow are gone. We're working on this and when I make the "eh' sound or tell her "easy" she backs off. She is the last to get a treat, so the diva drama is always entertaining.
Siri is in excellent health -- She is spayed, up to date on routine shots, and is negative for heartworm/lyme/earlichia. If you are interested in Siri, please email Denise@EskiesOnline.com for an adoption application, or call Denise at 617-216-9483. |
