ROXYRoxy has knocked our collective socks off! This stunning gray beauty, with haunting silver blue eyes, is one of the most striking dogs we have had in our rescue. Amazingly, Roxy was found braving harsh weather, abandoned by a world class schmuck, who had tied her to a park bench without food or water. Ya gotta wonder about some people. |
|
And so, a Good Samaritan called the Animal Cops, and Roxy was escorted to the city pound, so that her schmuck owner could be tracked down in case he/she wanted Roxy back. Once due process was complete, Animal Control lifted Roxy's "stray hold" and we were able to take her into foster care. |
Roxy is a lot of dog! Tipping the scale at nearly 75 lbs, shelter experts believe her to be a likely mix of Great Dane and Weimaraner. Roxy has the height and grand stature of the mighty Dane, mixed with the athletic prowess of the popular gray gun dog. While she received great behavior evaluations from her shelter handlers, we would like to place Roxy with experienced dog folks, who are up to the physical challenges of managing an exuberant large dog. |
Just one year old, Roxy is still quite the puppy. She'd be a great family dog, for seasoned large breed enthusiasts, with older kids. Roxy would revel in high energy kid play. Although she is gentle and loving, Roxy may well overwhelm toddlers with her size and spirit. She's a bit awkward on her feet, and needs some work on manners. Out of sheer puppy joie de vivre, Roxy loves to surprise people by jumping up to give a big kiss on the lips, but at her size, that kiss can be more shock than surprise. She has begun to grasp the basics of leadership and obedience training, and is a quick study. |
Roxy could also join the active lifestyle of a single or couple, whose schedule permits the training and exercise of a spirited youngster. Roxy is an energetic girl, who could be the ideal running or hiking companion. She enjoys play with other dogs, and would be a happy addition to a multi-dog home. We have not had her around cats, but she would most likely chase them in spirited play. Roxy is in excellent health and will be spayed next week. She has been vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper and has been tested negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis.
