ROLPHIE

Our Rolphie is a shy stunner. He takes a moment to warm up to new touch, but melts quickly into the arms of a patient handler. He came to us as a depressed boy, fresh from his short stint at an Animal Control facility, where his gem of an owner dumped this 5 year old for rather sketchy reasons.

Rolphie survived the harsh shelter world with his spirit intact. He received good behavior ratings, although he seemed somewhat standoffish to small children. He is not a fan of drastic change, and will greet strangers with wariness.

Rolphie would love to join a quiet, adult home, with a patient, loving single or couple who can provide stability, security, and at least two leisurely leash walks each day. He would most likely coexist well with a dog savvy cat, and would easily gel with another well adjusted dog. Rolfie is a medium energy dog, although he will certainly blossom under the one on one focus of his new people.

Rolphie appears to be a beautiful mix of Long Haired Dachshund and Cocker Spaniel. There is no mistaking the elongated Doxie spine and slightly shortened legs, but we also see a healthy dose of Cocker in Rolphie's face and wavy coat. His lustrous coat is a rich caramel color with black ear tip markings. Rolphie's duo DNA will surely offset some of the health and spine problems that plague these popular dogs from excessive overbreeding.

Only 16 pounds, Rolphie is a small dog, who could stand to gain a few pounds through exercise and a healthy grain free diet with added omega fats for his coat . His ideal weight would probably be 18 pounds.

Rolphie is a great travel companion, and rides well in the car. He is not reactive to the usual triggers of toll and gas attendants, and will receive a friendly stranger with shy avoidance. Rolfie has good house manners and is housetrained and crate trained. He has not had much obedience work beyond the basics, but is a willing student and quite eager to please.

Rolfie is in good health and is vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper and bordatella and influenza. He has been de-wormed and has tested negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis.
