ROCKY

Our lovable Rocky is a striking, robust beauty. At age four, Rocky's easy livin' lifestyle abruptly ended. He became a rescue statistic when his owner dumped him in a high kill animal control facility, claiming the sudden onset of allergies. Fortunately, we were apprised of Rocky's situation early in his ordeal, and he didn't have to spend too much time in the shelter.

Rocky is a Korean Jindo, a Husky-like hunting dog, native to Asia.  Jindos are powerful, intelligent and loyal dogs that tend to have a high prey drive, although Rocky lived with cats in his former home and coexisted beautifully. He is a powerful, tall dog, weighing 60 pounds.  The Jindo is very much Husky like in looks, but an astute eye will notice a broad forehead and slightly triangular shape to the face, characteristic of the breed.  His soft, plush coat is pure white, with tan colored ear tips.  He is a shedder, and will require regular brushing although probably not the services of a professional groomer.

Rocky has a delightful personality, and is surprisingly friendly, mild mannered, and easy to handle for a Jindo.  He doesn't seem to have the aloof quality that we sometimes see in this breed. At the age of four, he still has a playful energetic puppy vibe, and would be an all-around good Companion dog.  Rocky is best served by savvy adopters, experienced with large, powerful breeds, who understand how to instruct strangers to interact with him.  While Rocky is generally friendly and appreciative of affection, we always advise adopters to be careful with powerful breeds around overzealous strangers, and toddlers, who may push a dog beyond his or her comfort level.

Rocky would thrive in the active home of a single or couple, who can provide the daily activity that he needs to be happy.  He is an athletic dog, with a moderate energy level, who requires a couple of vigorous leash walks a day, as well as focused playtime and ongoing obedience training.  He would make the ideal running, walking or hiking companion.  He has excellent stamina and endurance. He enjoys the company of other female dogs, but sometimes finds other male dogs too much, especially if they are not neutered.  He could easily join a multi-dog home with other well mannered female dogs, and he is good-natured enough to tolerate cats with proper supervision.

Rocky has the ideal temperament to excel in the Canine Good Citizen program.  He has done well in his beginning obedience training, and responds well to both treat and praise positive reinforcent training techniques.  Adopters should be able to handle him easily at first meeting, and we hope will continue Rocky on his path to CGC certification.

Rocky has good house manners and is house trained and crate trained.  Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during his transition to a new home.  Rocky has been recently neutered, has been vaccinated for rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus), and canine flu. He has been boostered as needed. He has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been dewormed.
