ROBESPIERREIts hard to know what to write about Pierre. Truly I am nuts about this dog and find him delightful in every regard...and yet, I realize full well that he will not be everyone's cup of tea. First clue: his magnificent name...in honor of the Rascal Robespierre, one of the principal architects of the French Revolution. |
And, yet, Pierre is so charming that his boisterous histrionics take on a laughable slant, and we have come to a fast understanding that I can out "alpha bitch" him. Clearly, Pierre needs strong, patient leadership in an adopter. He will readily acquiesce to the calm, assertive owner, who can lead him down the yellow brick road of good behavior. Pierre has made 1000 percent progress in his time in foster care. He came to us as an abandoned, abused boy, with a major chip on his shoulder a few months ago, and indeed, tested our collective patience a time or two during his first few weeks. Potential adopters will need to be patient with Pierre and allow him time to warm up naturally, without forcing their affections on him in the first day or two. Once Pierre accepts his owner as Alpha, this boy is easy to handle and delightful to behold. He is motivated and eager to please and will be an obedience star in the right hands. Indeed, I am astounded to report that, this morning, Pierre sat quietly in the Dunkin Donuts drive thru -- on the between seat console -- while I ordered and paid for the morning latte. There just aren't words to describe this breakthrough! |
Pierre has been my constant companion during his stint in foster care, and the repeated exposure to new situations has served him well. He has visited nearly all of our foster families and has become a seasoned weekend camper. He has blended in beautifully with my three American Eskimos and two Min Pins, and has promoted himself the ringleader of the Rat Pack. He enjoys spirited play with other dogs and, yet, demonstrates the Min Pin need for a time out to snuggle under the covers, preferably on your lap. Pierre always has to have some part of his body draped across me, and I confess to allowing him to ride in my lap in the car. He is a skinny boy, and weighing 9 pounds, doesn't take up much room. Two years old, Pierre is a handsome devil with delightfully natural floppy ears and tail. Uncropped, he has a unique look that always puts a smile on my face. He is an alert watchdog and has generally good housemanners, although, still has some puppy behaviors to reckon with. Pierre is an enthusiastic car passenger and a delight to travel with. |
All in all, Pierre will be a treasure to the savvy Min Pin person who understands and loves their rascally nature. Adopters who have a natural alpha personality will have little trouble with Pierre, although continued obedience work and socialization will be needed to ensure continued good behavior. Pierre is in excellent health. He is neutered, up to date on routine shots, and has been de-wormed and tested negative for heartworm/lyme/earlichia/anaplasmosis.
