WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU MUST FIND
A NEW HOME FOR YOUR DOG
While Eskies Online
is committed to helping homeless American Eskimo Dogs throughout the northeast,
our resources are limited. We give first priority to dogs in "kill"
shelters whose time for euthanasia is fast approaching. We accept owner-surrender
dogs only when we are able to find a place for them in our foster home system.
As with other volunteer rescue groups, our foster space situation frequently
seems to operate in crisis mode. If you are the owner of an American Eskimo
Dog that you need to place in a new home, there are other options available.

EXPLORE
OPTIONS FOR KEEPING YOUR DOG.
- Depending on your situation, there may be options to help you keep your
Eskie. We realize that in some situations, people simply run out of choices.
But please be sure you have explored all other options before settling on
this decision. You can check this DOG
OWNERS GUIDE webpage for general information on the topic:
"Rover
needs a new home?". DOG OWNERS' GUIDE is also
an excellent source for articles on behavior problems which can contribute
to an owners' need to find a home for a dog. For direct links for a few
of these check our DOG
BEHAVIOR PROBLEMS/SOLUTIONS page.
-
ESKIES
ONLINE'S ROLE.
- You should contact Eskies
Online to assertain our current foster situation. If Eskies
Online is able to accept your dog into our system, you
will be asked to sign an owner release form that, among other things, makes
it clear that you cannot specify what kind of home the dog will be placed
in or expect to receive any information about that home. This is for the
wellfare of both the dog and its potential adoptors.
Eskies Online's'
mission is to place dogs into homes we believe are excellent situations
for a that particular dog. If you seek a home for the dog on your own, you
may find a way to exert more control over where the dog is placed.
-
WEB
CLASSIFIED LISTINGS.
- There are other web resources for listing your dog in pet classifieds.
One excellent option is PETFINDER.
This is a website devoted to compiling information on shelter dogs throughout
the country. Recently, PETFINDER
has added a Pet Classifieds section for individual owners to list their
own pets available for adoption. Heart Bandits Northeast lists its rescue
dogs on a PETFINDER
shelter page and has found this resource to be an excellent source of serious
potential adoptors. It is easy to list your own pet on this site. You will
find a listing below of this and other websites
where you can list your pet. Also check our main RESCUE
INFORMATION page for additional rescue groups.

LAST
RESORT: FIND A SHELTER FOR YOUR DOG.
- It is important to realize that most animal shelters must operate as "kill"
shelters which hold dogs for varying lengths of time (for some as short
as 48 hours) before killing the animals. The primary reason in most situations
is lack of space and resources. If you relenquish your dog to one of these
shelters, it will very likely be put to sleep soon after. You cannot count
on rescue organizations to find your dog in these "kill" shelters.
Some such shelters will not release animals to rescue groups. Those that
do may not have the resources or inclination to actively seek out these
groups. If you must place your dog in a shelter, please look for a "no-kill"
shelter. For one list of those shelters, try SHELTER
SEARCH.
WEB CLASSIFIEDS--DO IT YOURSELF
PETS FOR ADOPTION
Petfinder's Post-a-pet is full of great pets that for some reason or can't
stay in their current homes. People also list pets here that they find as
strays as an alternative to taking them to the shelter. These pets are usually
currently living with a foster family or their original family.

Use this page to submit listings for dogs seeking homes This list is for
rescues and dogs needing homes only. Do not use it to try to sell a dog, or
place a want ad for a dog.
