REILLY

Our randy Reilly is chock full of that the blarney and charm that attracts so many dog lovers to the Terrier breeds. There is a joyous, tenacious intensity infused into these spirited dogs, that draws devotees of all ages and walks of life.

Reilly is a lanky, leggy boy, who is full of the Terrier hijinks that are sure to please.  He is reported to be an Irish Terrier, although his coat in its natural state, seems to suggest something in the breed mix, perhaps Wheaten Terrier. We have no DNA evidence to prove breed mix, so Reilly is not a candidate for folks who need a hypoallergenic dog.

Weighing just 38 pounds, Reilly has the look of an Irish, when trimmed, but favors the Wheaten Terrier in his coloring and natural coat. Whatever his breed mix, he is a handsome guy with a big personality.  His rough coat is carmel colored, with minimal shedding.  He is easy to groom with a bath and brush every so often, and may need a professional puppy cut a couple times a year.  We had him professionally groomed to rid him of the many gnarls and mats that were pinching his skin.

Reilly came to us, just three years old, as an owner surrender to a large animal control facility, where his options were limited after he caught the shelter kennel cough.  He was quickly booted from the shelter adoption program, and relegated to the euthanasia list.  We couldn't help but invite this impossibly cute little guy into our rescue!

Reilly received good behavior evaluations at the shelter, and he scored well on his SAFER evaluation. He has warmed up nicely to his foster folks as he settled into his new life.  He is very easy to handle and recently submitted to a full throttle grooming unmuzzled! He has an amazing temperament and loves everybody he meets. Reilly is a medium energy dog, who needs a fair amount of exercise to avoid the pitfalls of boredom and frustration.

Reilly would be the ideal companion to an active single or couple, whose lifestyle provides time for his exercise and training needs.  He could also join a family with older kids, and would be a good addition to a multi-dog home, with one or two energetic, well trained dogs.  He has not been around cats, but typically, terriers can be a bit to feisty for the feline temperment.

Reilly has good house manners and is housetrained and crate trained.  Adopters should expect to troubleshoot an occasional accident from a recently neutered male dog, as he adapts to his new potty schedule and routine.  He has good car manners, and rides dutifully, as a superb sidekick!

Reilly has not had a great deal of obedience training in his young life, but he has begun to grasp the basics.  He walks well on lead, and enjoys his training sessions and responds to both leadership and positive rewards training techniques.  He impresses us as a smart cookie, who has the potential to achieve Canine Good Citizenship.

Reilly is in good health and has been neutered.  He has been vaccinated for rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo,  parainfluenza and coronavirus), and has been boostered as needed. He has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been dewormed and microchipped.  If you are interested in Reilly, please write Denise@eskiesonline.com or call/text Denise at 860-908-9738 for an adoption application.
