ADOPTED

PETER

Peter is a luscious tri-color scent hound, who has just joined our rescue from an urban Animal Control facility, where he had spent some time with the City's legions of homeless strays.

Peter adapted well to Shelter life, and his genial nature earned him rave reviews from staff and volunteers. We suppose he would not have had such a nonchalant attitude if he knew how close he came to euthanasia! Nowadays, even the young, sweet dogs are at risk.

Peter came to us with a bit of kennel cough, which was why he was bounced from the Shelter adoption program and designated for the At Risk List. We are crazy for our Hounds, so we invited this spirited one year old pup to bunk with us, so we could care for him, and then find his forever family. Peter has responded to treatment beautifully, and has now recovered completely.

Peter has an interesting look. He was labelled an American Foxhound, which is a likely guess, but he is smaller in stature than the breed standard. Weighing only 27 pounds, Peter has a slight, lean, athletic build, and he has a narrow triangular skull, and elongated nose that might suggest a bit of Whippet. His coloring is black and white, with black ticking over his body, and a splash of brown highlights on his face.

Peter is a great all around family dog. He loves people, and would enjoy the activity of older kids. He has quite a bit of puppy energy, and adopters should prepare to puppy proof the house, as well as get the entire family on the same page for much needed obedience work. He could also join an active single or couple, as a running or hiking buddy. The more action Peter gets, the better.

As a scent hound, Peter loves the outdoors and relishes his walks. He walks well on lead, and a brisk pace will keep Peter's sensitive nose moving forward. Peter will become easily distracted by the scents that abound in nature, so it is not wise to allow him off lead until he has reached an advanced level of obedience training.

Peter has excellent house manners and is house trained, although adopters should expect that a recently neutered male youngster will mark his territory a time or two. Peter is nicely crate trained and derives a sense of security from his crate. He is an excellent car passenger, and is well behaved enough to travel anywhere.

Peter is in excellent health and is neutered. He is vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper and bordatella. He has been microchipped, de-wormed, and has tested negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis.
