PARKER

Our demure Parker has just joined our rescue following a short stint in City Animal Control, as a lost stray. A Good Samaritan found her, nosing around in his back yard. After two weeks, no bereaved owner came to claim her, and her stray hold expired. By that time, she had caught a cold and was eliminated from the shelter adoption program. We were delighted to snatch up this petite beauty so that we could find her a forever home.

It's a shocker that Parker should wind up homeless and alone at just 4 years old. Shelter staff pegged her as a wire haired Jack Russell Terrier, and surely, if there is a breed crafty enough to flummox and elude an owner, it would be the JRT. Terrier lovers, in general, are a patient, tenacious lot, but JRT lovers are a cut above, in their devotion to these tiny, high energy scamps.

Parker is somewhat ladylike for a JRT. She doesn't have the over-the-top frantic energy that we see in some of her compatriots. Instead, Parker approaches cautiously, and waits for an invitation to smother her person with kisses! She is an affectionate girl, who bonds quickly, once she trusts.

Parker has the characteristic JRT athletic physique, although she has somewhat petite features for the breed, and is a pint sized, willowy dog at 17 pounds. Her short, wiry coat is mostly white with strategically placed patches of carmel brown.

Parker would be a great choice for an active single or couple who enjoy an energetic Terrier type dog. She would be an enthusiastic companion on walks or hikes, and she loves to travel and be part of the action. Parker could also join an active family with older kids, as long as everyone can commit to her training and exercise schedule. The key to Parker is adequate exercise and mental stimulation to keep her from wallowing in the boredom and frustration that leads to behavior problems.

Parker is a social girl, and could easily join a home with other well trained, energetic dogs. We have not exposed her to cats, but the terrier-cat vibe is a well known dicey commodity. She has begun to grasp the basics of leadership and obedience work, and has passed a few of the Canine Good Citizen tests. Parker has the potential to excel in this program.

Parker is in excellent health, and has been recently spayed. She has been vaccinated for rabies and DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus). She has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been microchipped and dewormed.
