MAYBELMaybel is our dazzling dowager, and she is strutting through life like a Weight Watcher shopping in the Misses section for the very first time. When she arrived at our Connecticut Rescue in December 2020, Maybel weighed in at a whopping 104 pounds. She was sluggish, depressed, and barely able to stand and walk. Since the ideal weight for a female Blue Tick Coonhound is about 60 pounds, we had some work to do. |
At the age of 11, Maybel was dumped into the Brooklyn outpost of NYCACC by an owner who was moving. She had lived with her person since she was a puppy, so she was rightly befuddled at her abrupt reversal of fortune. Yet, she adapted well to her diet and exercise routine, and now has sprung into Spring with a stunning 34 pound weight loss.

Maybel is in better shape than ever, and is ready to start her next life chapter. She has alot of life and love left to give her new family. Maybel has a BIG personality and is a gentle, loving girl. She seems laid back, demure, and enjoys the company of her people. She seems to have a slight sadness about her, and is likely feeling confused and disoriented with the rescue process. |
Maybel has a very genial nature. She is a sociable dog, and while she has had little background in obedience, she has grasped the basics and seems to enjoy the training exercises. She certainly is food motivated, and responds well to positive reinforcement training techniques. Maybel is easy to walk on lead, and has a moderate exercise level. She would be happy with a few leisurely to brisk leash walks daily. |

Maybel would be a great choice for a single or couple, a recent retiree or senior. She is a fantastic companion dog, and loves to stretch out on the couch withn her head in her special person's lap. She could easily do well in an apartment lifestyle, and can be trusted home alone for short periods of time. Maybel could easily join a multi-dog home, with proper introduction and supervision. She is a pretty good all-around companion dog, and needs to be in an environment where her golden years will be spent as the light of someone's life, rather than considered an afterthought. |
Maybel has good house manners, and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during her transition to a new home. Maybel is in great health, has been spayed and has had a recent dental procedure. She has received routine vaccinations and health screenings. She has been dewormed, microchipped and is on preventatives for Heartworm and Flea/Tick.
