ADOPTED

LUNA

Our new Husky Princess, Luna, is an older puppy, who has had a rough start in life. One year old, Luna was recently surrendered to a Connecticut Animal Control shelter because she was having ongoing seizures. Her owners had been unable or unwilling to have a vet diagnose and treat her seizure problem, so they surrendered her to the Animal Control folks. The AC documents we received describe Luna's former owners as "crack kids," whatever that means, but we surmise that it wasn't a thundering endorsement of their puppy parenting skills.

Now Luna has seen our vet, and her seizure issue is controlled nicely with two pills a day. This little girl is an absolute angel, full of love and joy. She's gentle and friendly, but we never forget that she is a Siberian Husky and prone to unpredictable antics! Luna is now available for adoption to Husky savvy folks willing to navigate her early adolescence.

As northern breed enthusiasts, we were thrilled to welcome Luna to our Rescue. As we are fond of saying, Huskies are not for everybody. They are bewitchingly beautiful, but require serious dog "chops" and capacity to provide a considerable amount of exercise.

Luna is a stunning white Siberian Husky, with ice blue eyes. She is a tall, graceful girl, at an ideal weight of 50 pounds. She has that slight gangly look of an older puppy on the verge of blossoming into a magnificent adult Husky. Luna's short, flat coat may thicken as she morphs into adulthood. She is a shedder, and needs regular brushing, and perhaps professional grooming a few times a year.

Luna has the ideal temperament that seasoned Husky lovers relish. She is not at all aloof, but enters the room with a bang and laps up lovin' wherever she can get it. At the age on one, Luna has loads of puppy mojo, and seems to face the world with utter joy. She would be a fantastic companion to an active single or couple, who can provide a good amount of exercise and leadership. She is friendly to all and easy to handle. She would excel in an only dog home, or she could join a multi-dog home, with other well mannered dogs, who have a structured pecking order.

Luna is extremely smart, and has shown some promise in obedience training. Unlike some Huskies who remain aloof and independent, and even a little stubborn, Luna consistently shows willingness to perform for both food and praise. She has mastered her sit-stay and down-stay, and but still needs a little work on performing with distractions. Luna has the potential to go all the way to Canine Good Citizenship, and will surely pass the test with flying colors. Adopters should continue her on this route, to realize her great potential.

Luna is in excellent health, and has recently had full blood work. Her seizures are controlled with a simple 2 time a day pill regimen, and annual blood work to check dosage levels. She has been spayed, and is up to date on routine shots and has tested negative for heartworm and tick borne disease.
