ADOPTED

LUKAS

Our Lukas is a robust, athletic pup, poised at the threshold of a brand new life, only 7 months old. His young life story is already peppered with betrayal. As a barely weaned pup, Lukas was found tied to a tree by a Good Samaritan, during a blistery cold streak last winter. After keeping him a few months, his savior faced landlord restrictions, and Lukas wound up in the city pound, which unfortunately was a high kill shelter.

Lukas was one of the lucky ones who made it to the adoption program, because his school of hard knocks had not yet turned him sour. He has retained his puppy joie de vivre despite all the chaos he has endured during the rescue process.

Lukas quickly caught a mild case of kennel cough, and was bounced out of the adoption program, and put at risk for euthanasia. We were able to take him into our rescue for treatment, and he has recovered in short order, and is now ready for his new home.

Lukas appears to be a mix of Gun Dog breeds. Our shelter contacts have described Lukas as a Brittany Spaniel/German Shorthaired Pointer mix and that seems to fit him. He has the Brittany brown coloration pattern of chocolate patches, with slight ticking, and body shape, crossed with the Pointer's short, flat coat texture that needs minimal grooming. Lukas has a lean, sinewy physique, with a full, undocked tail. He is a medium sized dog, weighing only 34 pounds. He is at an ideal, healthy weight and should maintain his athletic build through healthy grain free diet and exercise.

Lukas is an energetic puppy, who needs a sufficient amount of exercise and focused playtime to channel his puppy mojo. He is extremely good natured and playful, and is great with kids and other dogs. Lukas is the ideal choice for an active family with older kids, who are all on the same page about taking on the rigors of puppy training.

Lukas is a bit behind the learning curve on puppy manners and basic obedience work. He will greet strangers with an enthusiastic thigh hug, that might leave unwelcome muddy paw prints on Aunt Betty's white capris pants. Patience and persistence is required to consistently correct these innocent breaches of canine manners, but Lukas is a quick study and readily accepts correction.

Lukas could also join the active lifestyle of a single or couple, who have the time to devote to his training. We recommend the AKC Canine Citizenship protocol, which will ensure that Lukas is a welcome addition to every social situation.

Lukas is in excellent health and has been neutered. He has been vaccinated for rabies, DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza). He has had the 4snap test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been microchipped and dewormed.
