LOUIS

This little Chihuahua has been eatin' his Wheaties! Louie is just about as "robust" as this breed can get! He may be mixed with a standard Dachshund to give him an elongated spine and a powerful, muscular stance. And, we suspect that he is mixed with a bit of Impish Elf to give him a personality that will wow and delight.

Louie is "larger than life" in so many ways -- Everyone who has met this boy loves him instantly. He is full of courage, and charm with a life force bursting with energy. We'd describe Louis as a high energy boy, who needs lots of attention and action, frequent leash walks and a bit of manners training so that his "hello, how are ya"s become less like a torpedo to the tummy. His "welcome home" will give the older youngsters giggles, but leave your toddler or senior Aunt Sally flat on their butts on the kitchen floor.

Louie loves attention and lavishes it on everyone. He would make an ideal family dog for an active family with older kids. As far as other dogs and cats go -- Louie is a pushy, buttinski and has annoyed all the other foster dogs he has met, except the one Pit Bull/Lab mix who is a bigger pushy, buttinski than he is. So, we figure a feisty, good natured dog of girth could be Louie's buddy, but lesser dogs might not appreciate his brash brand of joie de vivre. Of course, savvy dog owners who chant Cesar Millan could forge a pack dynamic with good leadership and the all important leash walk.

Like most rescue strays, Louie has not had much obedience work, and we recommend a formal course of leadership and positive reinforcement training. Two years old, he had found himself a guest of an urban animal control facility, just waitin' to escape to a better life. He came to us after a brief stay in the clink, and upon first glance, we thought Louis was a bit on the chunky side. We discovered quickly that he is solid muscle and, at 12 pounds, he is thick boned and strong. His coloring is a lush reddish chocolate brown with cream markings. This boy is a true beauty!

Louie is in excellent health. Recently neutered, he has a bit of the rampaging testosterone syndrome which will subside somewhat in time, and he will settle into a quieter brand of machismo. He has been vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper, bordetalla, and he has been microchipped and de-wormed. Also, Louis has tested negative for heartworm/lyme/earlichia/anaplasmosis.
