KOFFEYOur luscious Koffey is one of those pretty boys who is just too pretty for his own good! Underneath these stunning good looks, lies a sensitive soul, fearful of change and the havoc that change can wreak. |
At just two years of age, Koffey was betrayed by his family...two adults and two children...who dumped him into City Animal Control, without much explanation. Despite the family's great comments about Koffey, he did not transition well into the harsh shelter environment. His good looks didn't sway the behavior assessors, who, Koffey was not inclined to impress. And so we found his picture on the daily kill list....and a little pretty goes a long way with us. |
Somehow, we imagined, from Koffey's glamour shelter shot, that he was a Golden Retriever mix, and were gobsmacked to meet this teeny, 16 pound pipsqueak. Koffey's owners had called him a Border Collie...which we ruled out immediately, chortling amongst ourselves that Koffey bears a closer resemblence to a water buffalo than a Border Collie. Our best guess is a cross between a Cocker Spaniel and Long Hair Dachshund. Koffey has the characteristic Doxie elongated spine, and russet hue, while, his soft, wavy coat suggest Spaniel DNA. His luxurious coat requires frequent brushing, and once he trusts, Koffey is pretty easy to handle. |
Koffey is a gentle, shy boy, who needs a patient adopter, willing to allow him time to warm up and bond. Koffey will do well in the quiet home of a laid back single or couple, with perhaps another good natured dog, or friendly cat, to help him adjust. He's not a good candidate for hectic family life, and he will surely be spooked by the overzealous affections of toddlers. |
Koffey is a medium energy dog, and needs a couple of leisurely walks each day, with an assertive handler, who has earned his trust. He has couch potato potential, and will enjoy lounging around the house with his special person. We have begun him on a basic obedience routine, and he seems happy to work for treats and praise. The obedience training process has gone a long way toward building Koffey's confidence. Adopters should continue him on a training regimen to develop his potential. Confident leadership is the key to success with Koffey. |
Koffey has excellent house manners, and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters must have appropriate expectations of a recently neutered dog, and be willing to finetune potty habits as Koffey adjusts to a new routine. Koffey is in excellent health, and has been neutered. He has been vaccinated for rabies and DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza). He has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been microchipped and dewormed.
