JUSTINOur magnificent Justin is an old soul. Our vet guestimates his age at around five or six, so he is a mature dog, well past the puppy mayhem stage. He was found as a city stray, with the telltale signs of long term neglect. We believe Justin to be a Harrier Hound, perhaps with a dose of Beagle tossed in for comic relief. He is a tall, leggy guy.....taller than the Beagle yet much smaller than the Foxhound. While Harrier Hounds are bred for hunting hares and small game, Justin does not seem to have a predatory side. He is a gentle, sacred soul, who seems to prefer having his supper served to him on a silver platter than to locate it himself. |
Justin has a lovely demeanor. He is reserved at first but warms quickly to an affectionate touch. He likes everyone and has no malice in him at all. He enjoys other dogs and greets them gently but "firmly." Justin is a bit of a busybody and can't resist butting into another dog's business. When he is rebuked, he will let out a hoot and a howl with such force that he comes up off his front legs. As a scent hound, Justin's preocupation with food is paramount, and he can find food wherever it may be hidden. He has a slight tendency to counter surf, and is just tall enough on rear legs to snatch a tunafish sandwich. Oh well, extra food isn't gonna kill him....he has a long way to go to get to his goal weight of 45 pounds. He is underweight and boney at 36 pounds. |
Justin would be a good companion for a medium energy family. He has a lazy side which relishes a timely snooze in the sun or by the fireside, but when there's family action or food on the horizon, Justin perks right up! He would much prefer the leisurely stroll to the marathon run. Justin loves the outdoors, with the myriad of interesting smells, but also has excellent house manners. He is housetrained and crate trained. He can be left alone for the 8 hour workday with no problems. |
After battling a bit if shelter kennel cough, Justin has received a clean bill of health and is awaiting his neutering appointment. He has been vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper and bordatella. He is microchipped and de-wormed. He has tested negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis.
