ADOPTED

FAVORITE

Our handsome Favorite is a lovely, gentle adult dog who has not seen very much of the world in his short life. He is part of an 8-pack of Foxhounds surrendered to a North Carolina shelter when their owners filed for divorce.

Favorite came to us along with two of his eight housemates, Maggie and "Least Favorite," after the divorcing owners lost their home. The dogs were malnourished and unkempt, and uncertain of their new surroundings. Nonetheless all three Hounds navigated the Rescue transition smoothly.

Favorite is a shy dog, who needs patient adopters that are willing to help a timid soul experience the world for the first time. This beautiful boy warms up to loving, gentle touch and would thrive in a quiet, active home with another well adjusted dog to light his way.

Favorite appears to be an American Foxhound, and he lives up to their lovable reputation.  Three years old, he is a large dog, at a lean weight of 50 pounds, although he could fill out to 60 pounds and still be within normal weight range.  His short, flat tri-colored coat is largely black and tan, with white markings.

Once he comes out of his shell, Favorite is a happy boy, and would be a great addition to an active family with older, dog savvy kids.  He could also join an active single or couple, who can provide at least one to two leisurely leash walks, so that Favorite can meander and stop to smell the "roses."  Scent hounds are extremely easy to manage because the leisurely walk that engages their senses, provides much needed mental and physical exercise.

Favorite also needs a fair amount of exercise and focused playtime so that he does not become bored and get into mischief. His confidence level would benefit greatly from ongoing obedience training, which is helpful in providing additional mental stimulation. He is slowly learning his commands, although he can become distracted easily. He is very treat motivated and responds well to Positive Reinforcement and Leadership techniques, and seems to enjoy his training sessions.

Favorite has good house manners, and is mostly house trained and crate trained.  Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during his transition to a new home. He has been neutered, and has received routine vaccinations and health screenings.
