FANCYOur Darling Fancy just joined our rescue from a rural animal shelter where she had been in residence for a few weeks since her owner had surrendered her, citing the ubiquitous reason "personal problems". Shelter workers felt that Fancy would come out of her shell and be able to better relax and transition to adoption via our foster home approach. Shelter life can be stressful for many dogs, and some do not do well in that environment. |
Fancy has relaxed a lot since she joined her new foster home, but we see her as a shy girl, who is slow to trust and takes time to warm up to strangers. She tends to keep to herself and does not seek out other dogs, but is quite sociable in one to one dog encounters. Fancy certainly could join a multi-dog home, with laid back, well behaved dogs. We have not had her around cats, but she is not predatory, and would most likely stay clear of the cats. |
Fancy is a spectacular looking dog. She is a mix of miniature American Eskimo Dog and Welsh Pembroke Corgi. Fancy's physique suggest the elongated spine and short limbed structure of the Corgi, but the Eskimo influence can be seen in her beautiful coat and pantaloons....which sadly has been shaved. The new coat will grow back in time, but presently, Fancy's coat feels harsh like stubble. The upside to the shave job was that we were able to identify the legion of fleas taking up residence on Miss Fancy, and we promptly gave them the heave ho. Fancy has a bit of skin inflammation from the flea dermatitis, so adopters will need to pay some attention to her nutrition and feed a healthy kibble rich in omega fats, and perhaps supplements to heal the skin and help grow the coat. |
Fancy would do well in a quiet, calm home, without a lot of action or visitors. Fancy is a shy girl and needs some time to warm to strangers. Adopters will do well to have visitors ignore Fancy at first and allow her to approach at her own comfort level. Once she is comfortable, she will join the party, but lay quietly off to the side. Fancy is not the kind of dog who likes to be the center of attention. She would be comfortable having a soft bed or crate off in a corner where she can relax and feel safe. Fancy is a medium to low energy dog, who would do well with a couple of leisurely leash walks each day to keep her happy and balanced. She has had no formal obedience work but has responded well to the basics that we have begun in foster care. We recommend that adopters continue on with formal obedience work to develop Fancy's great potential. |
Fancy is a wonderful companion dog. She travels well in the car and is not reactive to the usual stressors of toll or gas attendants. She loves her walks and behaves beautifully on leash. Fancy also loves to nap while her person watches TV or works online. She would do well with a moderately active single or couple who enjoy the companionship of a low key dog, and who have the patience to let her come into her own. We'd like to avoid homes with kids, because Fancy would be overwhelmed with the high energy. |
Fancy is in good health, and at an ideal weight of 20 pounds. She is spayed, vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper and borate. She has tested negative for heartworm/lye/Alicia/cataplasms and is on appropriate prevention.
