ELENA

Our lovely Elena is a perky, yet insecure beauty, who will charm her adopter with an unbridled joie de vivre, once she gets past her initial panic attack! She joined our rescue last year, after a stint in a high kill animal control facility, where she slipped through the cracks, and wound up on the shelter euthanasia list. When we came across Elena's shelter mugshot, we were struck by the terrified uncertainty in her pretty brown eyes, and batwing ears.

As soon as she joined our country bumpkin rescue, Elena begin to come out of her shell, and shed her haunted, fearful look. Slowly, a more confidant posture emerged, until she was facing life with squared off shoulders, and upturned ears.

Two years old, Elena is a striking young girl, with the most luscious black and tan colored coat, in a saddlebag pattern. She appears to be a mix of two tenacious Toy breeds, that strike terror in the hearts of the world wide rodent population: Miniature Dachshund and Miniature Pinscher. Elena's profile reveals that unmistakable Doxie elongated spine, squat stature, and paddle feet, mixed with the proud posture, erect ears and tail of the Min Pin. She is a small, muscular dog, and at 10 pounds, she looks like she means business! We pity the fool rat that crosses our formidible canine Amazon princess.

As a double dose of working dog, Elena has a tenacity and high energy level that must be channeled into appropriate activities. She still has her puppy mojo, and adopters will need to provide adequate daily exercise. She would be a great fit for active adults, who relish the rigors of puppyhood, and who have the time and patience to nurture Elena's great potential. We don't think Elena would be a good fit for a home with small children or cats.

Exercise and discipline are the keys to Elena's rescue program. She would make a great running, walking or hiking champion, and she absolutely loves outdoor activities. She has the signature intelligence that we expect from our Mini Doxies and Min Pins, and she is quick to grasp basic obedience commands. We have begun Elena on the Canine Good Citizenship program, and she's already performing beautifully. We encourage adopters to continue Elena on a basic obedience training regimen.

Elena has great house manners, and is mostly house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot house training issues because rescue dogs lose quite a bit of their mojo during the rescue process. Elena is a smart girl and will quickly adjust to her new potty routine.

Elena is in excellent health, and has been spayed. She has been vaccinated for rabies and DA2PP (distemper, adrenovirus, parvo and parainfluenza). She has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been microchipped and dewormed.
