ADOPTED

DUSTY

We are shaking our heads over the Dusty Situation. Dusty first caught our collective eye as soon as he entered the NYC ACC as a city stray. Immediately, he was put in limbo, while the shelter tried to track down his original owner. No one came to claim Dusty, and by that time he had wowed shelter staff and earn himself a spot in the shelter adoption program.

Dusty was such a good boy, and fared so well in the intense shelter environment, that he earned stellar behavior ratings and was quickly adopted. And then, the First Class Mope that adopted him returned him in four days. Now, Dusty had become an Owner Surrender dog who only had 48 hours before he was headed to the euthanasia list.

As Northern breed enthusiasts, we were thrilled to welcome Dusty to our Rescue. As we are fond of saying, Huskies are not for everybody. They are bewitchingly beautiful, but require serious dog "chops" and capacity to provide a considerable amount of exercise.

Dusty is a stunning black and white Siberian Husky, most likely mixed with a smidge of Alaskan Malamute, to account for his size and full coat. He is a tall, strong, muscular dog at 56 pounds. Dusty's spectacular coat is long and full, with a pronounced puffy plume tail. He is a shedder, and needs regular brushing, with perhaps professional grooming a few times a year.

Dusty has the ideal temperament that seasoned Husky lovers relish. He is not at all aloof, but enters the room with a bang and laps up lovin' wherever he can get it. Five years old, Dusty is beyond the puppy destructive stage, and will acclimate easily to his new home. Dusty would be a fantastic companion to an active single or couple, who can provide a good amount of exercise and leadership. He is friendly to all adn easy to handle. He would excel in an only dog home, or he could join a multi-dog home, with other well mannered dogs, who have a structured pecking order.

Dusty is extremely smart, and has shown some promise in obedience training. Unlike some Huskies who remain aloof and independent, and even a little stubborn, Dusty consistently shows willingness to perform for both food and praise. He has mastered his sit-stay and down-stay, and but still still needs a little work on performing with distractions. Dusty has the potential to go all the way to Canine Good Citizenship, and will surely pass the test with flying colors. Adopters should continue him on this route, to realize his great potential.

Dusty is in excellent health, and has been neutered, and is up to date on routine shots and has tested negative for heartworm and tick borne disease. If you are interested in Dusty, please call or text Denise at 860-908-9738 or email Denise@eskiesonline.com for an adoption application.
