ADOPTED

DUBLIN

Our shy girl, Dublin, needs a patient adopter to help her rebuild her confidence! Just 2 years old, she had become a Rescue statistic: one more stray dog, alone and wandering the city streets. Dublin was brought into a high kill shelter, where the accommodations are mighty rough, and the stress level is high. Some dogs are traumatized, as they try to find their way in the shelter system, and become fearful and shut down. Dublin came to us in an insecure mindset, afraid to walk on a leash.

After a short while, she began to trust, and now, she has made great strides. Dublin desperately needs a strong pack leader who will patiently draw out her great potential with lots of activity. She had done well in foster care, and has bonded with her caretakers, and won their hearts. We have implemented alot of confidence building strategies like leash walking, hiking and obedience training for exercise and mental stimulation.

We have begun Dublin on the Canine Good Citizen program, and she is grasping the basics, and making progress. She seems slow to embrace change, so the best approach has been consistent activity and exposure to new people and new situations.

We would describe Dublin as a shy, timid soul, and suspect that her former owner most likely nurtured the behavior rather than addressing it. She would not be a good choice for an active family, with kids who might have Disney expectations of their new dog. Instead, she would thrive with an active single or couple, who enjoy the process of helping a rescue dog reach full potential. This kind of adoption can give intangible rewards and satisfaction, like no other.

Dublin was described to us as a Black Labrador mix, but she is petite for the breed. She is a medium sized dog at 40 pounds, has a well-muscled, compact frame, short legs, floppy Lab ears, and a long, natural tail. Her coat is a lush blue-black, and she has deep brown eyes that convey a sense of trepidation. Her lustrous coat is short, low shedding, and requires minimal grooming.

Dublin could easily join a multi-dog home, with well balanced dogs and cats. She responds well to other gentle dogs, and a well trained, confident dog would be a fantastic companion for her. Dublin has an extremely gentle, sweet nature, and she obviously longs for a stable, loving human connection.

Dublin is in excellent health and has been spayed. She has been vaccinated for rabies and DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus). She has had the 4snap test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been microchipped and dewormed.
