ADOPTED |
DOLCESweet Dolce came to us just as his time was up at Big City Animal Control, and he was facing the dreaded "Must call by 6:00 AM" countdown. This fawn like beauty had developed quite a fan base online, and we received several impassioned pleas to save him. We scratched our heads in amazement as to how such a gentle beauty could be facing euthanasia at the age of only one, so we jumped at the chance to help Dolce, and he has us completely charmed us. |
Dolce has stunning good looks and appears to be a mix of Whippet and Basenji, a double dose of hound! Dolce has an elegant physique, with long legs and statuesque posture. His carmel colored coat has lovely cream colored markings. Dolce's head is triangular shaped, elongated and narrow through the skull and nose. Dolce entered his foster home with a frantic edge since he had not yet been neutered, and he did not gain favor by throwing a hump into our mature Alpha Divas, Shiloh and Sophie! After one too many rebukes, Dolce finally learned some gentlmanly manners...somewhat mastering mind over matter. |
Now that he has been neutered, Dolce has achieved a state of Zen. Well, as Zen as a high energy puppy can get. He loves people and other dogs, and would be a good choice for an active family, with older kids, and one or two well trained dogs. Dolce loves to play, and would enjoy an active family of his own to include him in family outings. Part sight hound and part African hunting hound, Dolce is stimulated by all the sights, sounds and scents of nature. He loves the outdoors, and would make an enthusiastic running, hiking or walking campanion, and would be thrilled to tag along on family camping adventures. |
Although Dolce has an extremely sweet nature, adopters should not forget his hunting roots. Dolce has not been tested with cats, but he would probably chase them beyond their comfort level. Also, sight hounds are notorious for chasing prey that they spy off in the distance, so adopters should be careful about off leash time too early in the training process. Dolce has had no formal obedience work, but he is so loving and praise motivated that leadership and positive rewards training techniques will quickly transform him into a Canine Good Citizen. Dolce has excellent house and car manners, and is largely housetrained and crate trained. Since he was neutered recently, adopters should be patient with the occasional marking behavior as he transitions to his new home. |
Dolce is in excellent health and has been neutered. Also he had two floppy dew claws removed, and he was vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper, bordatella and canine influenza. He has been microchipped and de-wormed and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis.
