ADOPTED

DOBBY

Our Dobby is a charismatic fellow ready for his next life adventure. As a 5 year old adult, he was abandoned by his owners to a high kill animal control facility, where he became absolutely terrified. To make matters worse, his owner surrendered Dobby, by pretending he found him as backyard stray, to avoid the shelter surrender fee and extensive intake interview. Shelter staff had very little information to go on Dobby's background and it made their job trickier than it needed to be.

Typically owner surrendered dogs have a tough time in the shelter, after losing their beloved family members. Even a subpar owner is a hero in their dog's eyes. There was a sadness about Dobby, that spoke to shelter staff, who decided to send him to us, rather than perform behavior evaluations on a frightened dog in an artificial environment.

Dobby joined us a few months ago, and has really blossomed in foster care. It was clear at the beginning, that his former owners did absolutely no leadership or obedience work with him. He came to us with Big Attitude, which we have channeled into exercise and obedience work. Now, Dobby has learned to relax and let a Human Pack Leader call the shots.

Dobby is a hearty mix of two tenacious vermin hunting breeds, the Miniature Dachshund and Chihuahua: A Chiweenie! At just 10 pounds, he has a short, stocky build with a slightly elongated spine, to suggest Dachshund, but his structure is substantial enough to minimize the back problems that plague some Dachshunds. He bears "tuxedo colors" a black coat, with a white stripe on his chest, and big "Mickey Mouse" Ears.

Dobby has a natural prey drive, and definitely needs a good deal of mental stimulation, as well as physical exercise to channel his hunting mojo. He is best suited to experienced Chihuahua or Dachshund lovers, who are willing to take charge, and continue him on his excercise and obedience regimen. Dobby is a high-energy dog, who needs sufficient exercise, at least two to three brisk walks a day. He would make an ideal running walking or hiking buddy, but if he is left alone in a fenced-in yard he will slowly go nuts.

Dobby needs folks who will engage him and make him a big part of their lives. He needs ongoing socialization and continued obedience work. He loves his obedience sequence, takes great pride and pleasure in completing the tasks, and will work for treats or praise. Obedience work seems to tire him out, almost as much as a brisk run.

Dobby would shine with the structured efforts of active adults. He's not a good candidate for large families, and will likely be unnerved by the overzealous attentions of small children and cats. He likes other dogs, and could easily join a multi-dog home with proper introduction. Dobby has good house manners, and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during his transition to a new home.

Dobby is in excellent health, and is at a lean body weight. He is neutered, and has been vaccinated for Rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus), He has been boostered as needed. He has had the 4dx test: negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been dewormed, and microchipped.
