Calvin and Colton are an impossibly cute pair of bonded Dachshund brothers that recently came to us from a hoarding situation in Brooklyn. Nineteen dogs were removed from the apartment, when the owner was evicted. All the dogs were brought to the Brooklyn branch of NYCACC.

Shelter workers scrambled to find quick placement for this displaced extended family so they wouldn't have to spend too much time in the harsh shelter environment.  Colton and Calvin were diverted to us. At first meeting, the boys seem shut down, as often happens with hoarding dogs who have been conditioned to low expectations from life.

Soon after they arrived, a friend of our Vet's offered to foster them, so that they would receive one-on-one attention. Mary's loving approach allowed Colton and Calvin to bloom at their own pace. Their warm, funny personalities have popped out, and Mary has successfully turned the housebreaking corner.

The pair are tightly bonded, and we want to place them together. They have physiques that suggest Mini Dachshunds, with pronounced elongated spines and paddle feet, although their striking color patterns point to something else in the mix, perhaps Beagle. Calvin has Lemon-cream coloring, and Colton is tri-color, black, white and tan. They are tiny dogs, weighing just 14 pounds.

Colton and Calvin are mild mannered dogs, with Calvin presenting a slightly more assertive personality. Colton seems to follow Calvin's lead, but generally they are calm, laid back dogs. They would thrive in an adult home, with calm, gentle folks who would provide a couple of leisurely "smell the roses" leash walks daily.  They would do well with other dogs and possibly cats.

The boys have good house manners, and are now mostly housetrained.  Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during their transition to a new home. They will be neutered on 8/26/21, and then available after that. Both dogs have received routine vaccinations and health screenings.
