CINDYLovely Cindy had an aura of tragedy surrounding her when we first met. We saw her forlorn shelter mugshots, and we thought to ourselves, "something really bad has happened to that gorgeous girl." And so we invited Cindy to join our rescue and began piecing together the bits of her story from the evidence at hand. |
Cindy appears to be a stunning mix of Siberian Husky and German Shepherd, with perhaps a bit of Doberman Pinscher DNA to explain the dramatic black and tan markings. We see the unmistakable Husky mask, and the independent spirit that Husky folks love. Cindy was found roaming as a stray in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. She was lactating, and had an enlarged belly which recently had produced a litter of pups. The pups were nowhere to be found. |
And so Cindy patiently navigated her stay at a high volume kill shelter with grace, and earned herself an excellent reputation and behavior rating. Although she was a volunteer favorite, she was passed over in adoptions. No matter...we knew that someone spectacular was out there for Cindy and her holiday miracle will come in due time. | ![]() |

Now that Cindy has shed the ravages of whelping, she has snapped back quicker than Madonna after childbirth! She no longer seems like the tragic figure that tugged at our hearts a month ago. Now, Cindy is robust, lively and playful. She is extraordinarily affectionate and loving, and is getting along well with other dogs, but is not so crazy about cats. She could easily join a multi-dog home with active adults and older, dog savvy kids. |
At her first vet exam, Cindy's general demeanor suggested an age of abour 3 years old. Now, after a month of healing, nutritious food and exercise, Cindy seems to be much younger. She has a puppylike quality and energy level of a dog in the 1.5 to 2 year range. We don't see evidence of formal obedience work, but Cindy is responding beautifully to basic positive rewards and leadership training techniques. We recommend that adopters continue on this track to bring out Cindy's best behavior. | ![]() |

Cindy is in good health and has healed nicely from the whelping. She is a bit underweight at 55 pounds, and adopters will need to focus on a nutritious diet and provide a couple of leisurely leash walks each day in addition to lots of focussed playtime. Cindy will be spayed before adoption, and has been vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper and bordatella. She has been microchipped and de-wormed and has tested negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis.
