CHICOEver since we took Chico into our rescue, I have heard the same question over and over....."How could somebody burn their dog?" Well...I must defer to my spiritual mentor, Forrest Gump, and declare that "Sometimes, there just aren't enough rocks." |
Indeed, Chico presented himself to the shock and horror of everyone at the shelter with pretty bad burns on his side and chest. He has been treated and is well on the mend, with the burns healing beautifully into a faint scar pattern that kind of reminds me of a crop circle. Clearly, Chico has been through some drama...and yet, this scrumptious Shiba Inu / Miniature Pinscher mix has retained a joie de vivre that is infectious! |
Chico is a happy go lucky boy, with keen intelligence and awareness of all around him. He never misses a beat! He enjoys the companionship of other dogs, and would be a super addition to a multi-dog home. We have not had Chico around cats, but his genial nature indicates that he would chase them in play, but without malintent. Chico would do well with active adopters who can channel the energy of this spritely two year old boy into exercise, discipline and focussed play. He would make an ideal hiking or running companion and would love to join a family with older kids on camping or fishing trips. His breed combination of Shiba and Min Pin suggests an innate love of the outdoors and connection to nature. The more structured outside time...the better. |
Chico has had little obedience work, and would make a fantastic candidate for formal classes. Adopters who enjoy the process of working with a rescue dog will receive constant rewards as Chico develops into a extraordinary companion dog. He responds beautifully to praise and treats, so his training process should be a breeze. Chico is in excellent health and has healed from his burns. His skin is recouping nicely, but adopters will want to continue him on a diet rich in quality protein and omega fats to reduce the dry flaky burn areas. Also, we suggest a forkful of canned salmon added to the diet to increase moisture and oil to this affected area. |
Due to his injuries, Chico has not yet been neutered, but will be before adoption. He has been vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper and bordatella, and is microchipped and de-wormed. He has tested negative for heartworm/lyme/earlichia/anaplasmosis and is on appropriate preventatives.
