BOBO

Our Bobo is chock full of personality and panache. This boy is a natural born comedian. That's just about what you'd expect from a mix of Dachshund and Chihuahua....two breeds guaranteed to provide a giggle or two.

Bobo came to us via the rescue program of an over crowded Animal Control facility, where he spent some time after getting caught up in a dog catcher sting. Bobo was a city stray and was not too happy about losing his freedom!

Although...there is something to be said for regular meals and a roof over one's head, so Bobo made the best of things and hunkered down for a long stay. As an adult dog, his chances for adoption were slim, considering folks' predilection for puppies. Bobo seemed to sense this, judging from the manner in which he flirted shamelessly with all the shelter volunteers. Bobo had quite the fan base!

Many volunteers put in a good word for Bobo, and we couldn't resist his spunk. We invited him to join our rescue and he has charmed us as well. We snicker when we recall Bobo's maiden voyage in the convertible. Not many dogs can pass the "convertible" test...which seems to bring out a level of chutzpah in the cheekier foster dogs. Indeed, Bobo was the cheekiest....not only did he soak up the sun and wind, but he positioned himself on the dashboard, like a reverse hood ornament, to stare down the driver...raising the concept of "back seat driver" to "reverse dash board" driver....Bobo has to have an opinion on everything.

Once we convinced Bobo to position his behind in his seat, and clasped his safety harness, he was quite the well mannered car passenger. Bobo loves to travel and, at 10 pounds, can go anywhere. He is relatively well mannered, and does not react overtly to such scary personae as the toll collector or gas attendant.

As an older dog, Bobo is well past the puppy mayhem years, and has developed a nice adult energy rhythm. There has been some controversy about Bobo's age, and since there are no birth records with stray rescues, our vet has guestimated him between 6 and 10.....somewhere in the middle. Based on energy level alone, we'd guess 4 or 5, because, this pup is a real firecracker! Bobo is full of fun and energy, and would require 1 or 2 brisk leash walks each day to tire him out.

Bobo has had no formal obedience work, but is ready and willing to follow the direction of a calm, assertive owner. He responds nicely to rewards based positive reinforcement training, and we recommend that adopters pursue formal obedience work to ensure building a bond with Bobo.

Bobo likes other dogs, and we think he could co-exist nicely with dog savvy cats. We'd love to see him adopted by an active single or couple who would enjoy Bobo's companionship during walks, runs, or camping weekends. Bobo loves the outdoors and longs to be part of the action.

Bobo is in excellent health. As a mix of Doxie and Chihuahua, Bobo has the elongated spine that suggests Doxie as the dominant breed, but a stiff dose of Chihuahua adds some contrast and strength to his structure so that he will not likely fall prey to the myriad back problems that plague Dachshunds. Bobo is neutered, vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper and bordatella. He is microchipped and de-wormed and negative or heartworm/lyme/earlichia/anaplasmosis.
