ASHLEY

There's just something about Ashley. This sage old soul is cloaked in a youngster's skin! Only one year old, our sad girl was picked up as an injured city stray, a nameless statistic, destined for the euthanasia ward of a harsh animal control facility.

But....she had this intangible quality...a wise, wistful gentleness that has touched everyone she has met on her journey. Despite the severe, painful bite wounds scattered across her back, Ashley kept her chin up and charmed the veterinary staff into giving her the best possible behavior evaluation.

Folks suspected that Ashley had met with some peril while on the run, and the theories abounded. While nobody knows Ashley's history, everyone agrees that she is an angelic and special girl full of love and kindness.

Soon, shelter staff and volunteers had given her a pretty name and dandy chapeau for her photo shoot to attract interest of prospective adopters. Nobody stepped up. Weeks turned to months, and as a staff favorite, Ashley managed to get passed over for the euthanasia list. She spent her days keeping staffers company while they went about their daily routines.

Finally, Ashley's number was up, and shelters workers were distraught. We received an impassioned personal plea to accept her into our rescue, and we just could not turn her down. Ashley joined our rescue, at her "eleventh hour," but had to spend some time in our partner boarding kennel before we had foster space available. Again, she mesmerized kennel staff with that je ne sais quoi....earning her more accolades on behavior and temperment.

Now that Ashley has joined her foster home, she has quickly become a favorite, and has earned full house privileges in very short order. Ashley has excellent house manners and has assimilated nicely with all types of dogs, small to large. She has a calm, peaceful energy that other dogs like.

Experts agree that Ashley is a bully breed mix of American Sraffordshire terrier and American Pit Bull Terrier, with the characteristic muscular frame, broad head and short coat. She needs minimal grooming. Ashley has none of the high enery that we usually see in the bully dogs. She would rather nap in the sun than carry on a game of frisbee.

Ashley is one of those rare rescue dogs who could fit into just about any home. She would fit into the lifestyle of a calm, laid back single or couple, who enjoy the process of helping a rescue dog. And, she would be a good choice for first time dog owners, who love the bully breeds, or families with kids. Ashlely is an extremely gentle dog and could get along with cats.

Ashley has excellent house manners. She does not bark much, but will alert to door bells and UPS guys. She is an alert watchdog, but then, will respectfully back off, and greet strangers warmly, without rushing the door. Ashley is extremely well socialized and makes friends wherever she goes.

Ashley is housetrained and crate trained, so adopters will have the option to use a crate, but Ashley has earned run of the house privileges with us. She is in excellent health and has been spayed. She has been vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper and bordatella and influenza. She has been de-wormed and has tested negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis.
