ARABELLA

Our Arabella is simply one of the most glorious creatures alive. She has such a big personality and is so full of love and spirit. And yet, when she arrived, Arabella wasn't at her best. Animal Control Officers found Arabella in an abandoned building eating god-knows-what for food. She was escorted to NYC ACC, and soon after began vomiting foreign substances, which led to diagnostic x-rays, which led to the discovery of a paperclip lodged in her intestines.

Arabella was rushed to our vet for emergency exploratory surgery to remove the paper clip, and by the time the next set of X-rays were taken, the paperclip was poised to exit the premises, and indeed was passed in the next couple of hours. Arabella dodged a bullet!

Then, she developed a deep inner ear infection, from the shelter upper respiratory infection that she caught, and scared the bejesus out of us by staggering around as though she were drunk. A simple round of antibiotics did the trick and in no time Arabella was back to charming us with her "woe is me" luminous, deep hazel eyes.

Despite Arabella's traumatic health crises, she sailed through her intake, making friends at every turn. She was a cooperative sweetheart during her vet exam, and SAFER evaluation, earning the top ratings in both areas. Shelter contacts recommended that she could be placed in just about any kind of home with great success.

Once she was released to us, she continued to show a delightful personality, and balanced nature. She appears to be a mix of Red Nose American Pit Bull Terrier and Yellow Labrador Retriever. Arabella is a well-built and stocky girl, slightly overweight, but her physique seems elongated and more similar to a Labrador structure than a pure ABPT. She has a natural tail and uncropped ears, that sit high upon her head like a haute couture chapeau.

Arabella seems to have sort of a languid, lazy vibe. She does not have the over top energy that you'd expect from a Bully breed. She has a relatively calm demeanor, and is easy to handle on lead. She would be an excellent choice for a novice Bully owner.

Of course, Bullies are higher energy than most dog breeds, so even though Arabella is calm for a Bully, she still needs sufficient exercise to be happy. She is a medium sized dog at 55 pounds. Arabella loves the outdoors, and she would be an ideal walking or hiking companion. She would do well with one to two brisk leash walks each day, plus focused playtime and obedience work.

Arabella has had little formal obedience training, but is beginning to grasp the basics nicely. She has begun her Canine Good Citizen program and impresses us every day. Adopters should continue her program, and develop her full potential. Bullies as loving as a Arabella, should be Breed Ambassadors.

Arabella could join just about any kind of home. She is generally well behaved, and friendly to all. Although she is fairly easy to handle, she may overwhelm toddlers and cats, but she'd be fine with older children and other well behaved dogs.

Arabella has excellent house manners, and is well past the puppy mayhem stage. She is house trained and crate trained, although adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that may occur as she adjusts to a new routine. Arabella is a calm car passenger, and behaves well in public.

Arabella is in excellent health at the age of four, She is spayed, has been vaccinated for Rabies and DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus). She has had the 4snap test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been microchipped and dewormed.
