ANGIEOur magnificent Angie takes our collective breath away. Sadly, this one year old girl was given up by her owners, because they moved to housing that would not permit dogs. As an adolescent dog, at an impressionable time in her learning curve, Angie found herself incarcerated at NYC ACC, and was understandably stressed. Owner surrendered dogs seem to have the worst reactions to the harsh shelter environment. They're used to the warmth and love of a family home, and suddenly their world is tragically upended. |

Angie is an exquisite looking dog. She is a proud Chinese Chow Chow, and has a thick carmel colored, double coat that makes her look lion-like, and requires a good deal of brushing and perhaps occassional professional grooming. Young Angie has a formidable presence. She is a large, thick set dog, and weighs in at a very solid 43 pounds. She could easily reach 50. While Angie has a friendly, lovable demeanor, and seems to enjoy human attention, she also has the very well entrenched Chow guardian vibe, and requires some serious handling chops and command presence in an adopter. |
Angie was acquired from a "breeder" at just 8 weeks of age, which may be technically feasible, but not optimal for puppy social development. As a result, Angie seems a bit shy at first meeting. And yet despite the upheavals of the first year of her life, Angie exudes all the majesty and prowess that characterizes this powerful breed. |

Often we find that the Chow beauty is his or her downfall. These stunning dogs attract a wide array of adopters ranging from extremely savvy, to those novices bewitched by breed mystique. We believe wholeheartedly that a Chow, regardless of individual temperment, requires dog handling ability that is well above average. When considering a breed as powerful as the Chow, an Adopter must commit to proper socializing and ongoing obedience work. |
Angie would be the ideal companion for very serious Chow folks, who are comfortable establishing rules and boundaries, so that Angie knows exactly where she stands. A loosey-goosey home structure will allow her to assert herself in ways that are not optimal for a human-canine living arrangement! |

The key to success with Angie is sufficient exercise, and ongoing obedience training to maintain leadership. She is a moderate-energy dog who needs a couple brisk leash walks each day and preferably an active outdoor lifestyle, with a Chow savvy single or couple. She would be the ideal running or walking companion, and would love to accompany her adopters on hiking or camping adventures. She loves the outdoors, and needs to be in an active home, integrated into a lifestyle, not relegated to a backyard. |
Angie has lived in an only dog environment, but seems to enjoy canine companionship. She could join a multi-dog home, with a good-natured, well-trained and well socialized dog with similar energy level. We don't think that she would be suitable for a home with cats or small children. Angie has decent house manners, that will continue to improve under her adopter's patient, knowledgeable leadership. She is house trained and crate trained, although adopters should expect an accident or two during her transition to a new home. Angie is in excellent health, and has been spayed, and is up to date on routine shots and has tested negative for heartworm and tick borne disease.
