ALICEUpdate! We just love Alice! Although...we have been channelling our inner Ralph Kramden: "AAAAAALice!!!!", while integrating this super high energy ten month old puppy into our busy foster home. Alice reminds me of a young colt, with gangly legs that seem to fall out from under her because her brain moves faster than her behind! Lovely Alice is a gorgeous girl...a likely mix of Smooth Coat Collie and Brittany Spaniel. She has the most gorgeous green eyes and blonde features, with splendid golden yellow markings. |
Alice's coat has a slight fringe to it, but she displays minimal shedding. She came to us from a busy animal control facility where her number was up, and we pulled her in the nick of time. She presented with a whopping dandruff condition, with large patches of dry skin, which have been resolved through grooming with holistic oatmeal products and good nutrition. Alice is on a diet high in quality protein and omega fats, and her coat and skin have returned to the healthy lustrous state that we love to see in young puppies. |
Alice has an extremely good nature and friendly demeanor, but has had no structure, discipline or formal obedience work. She has a bit of a frantic quality on leash, and adopters may wish to use a Halti lead or Illusion collar to gain her cooperation for walks and leash work. As a spirited youngster, Alice is easily distracted by the sights and sounds of nature or city living, so it will be important to have the walking equipment necessary to keep her focussed. We recommend a formal obedience approach with Alice because she is highly intelligent and extremely eager to please. Alice would be the star of any obedience class. |
Alice has a lot of unbridled puppy energy and needs an active family who will provide her plenty of exercise and playtime. She is a high energy dog, who would be a fantastic hiking or running buddy, and would also be loads of fun to include on family camping and road trips. Alice would do great with older kids, and even toddlers in a dog savvy, well supervised home. Alice can be jumpy, and will likely knock toddlers down, and we think she would drive cats crazy....although, folks experienced in integrating dogs and cats could certainly achieve success in teaching Alice to respect the cat's boundaries. |
March Update
We are tickled to report on Alice's fantastic progress in her new foster home. Alice's foster mom, Susan, is one of our most seasoned behavior experts and has begun behavior bootcamp with our darling girl. Ten months old, Alice is full of puppy energy, and Susan has begun to channel that energy in to a positive reinforcement training program. |
Key to Alice's progress is her exercise regime, which includes hiking and power-walking each day. Once Alice has her ya ya's worked out, she is quite the eager student, and has already mastered her Sit and Down commands. Also, Alice has had her professional behavior evaluation at Susan's training facility, where she scored high on all counts. Alice passed her eval with flying colors and her potential is limitless! Alice's adopters will benefit from the considerable obedience work that she is receiving now, and we would like to see her new family continue on to help her down the road to Canine Good Citizenship. |
Alice is in excellent health and has recently been spayed. She has been vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper and bordatella, and is microchipped and de-wormed. She has tested negative for heartworm/lyme/earlichia/anaplasmosis and is on appropriate preventatives.
