Our Zully is an impossibly cute little character who has charmed everyone she's met. She exudes a sweetness that can only be seen in a dog who is much loved. Unfortunately her doting owner became severely ill and had no family to step up for Zully. And so, this delightful girl was surrendered to an overcrowded animal control facility, where she faced an uncertain fate. Owner surrendered dogs are at much greater risk than strays in a high kill shelter, because the 14 day process of determining the owner is unnecessary.

Only eight years old, Zully was headed for the euthanasia list, but luckily was rerouted in our direction. Despite the harsh shelter environment that sometimes causes fearful reactions in Owner Surrendered dogs, Zully maintained her even keel and received some excellent behavior evaluations, even during her initial vet visit when many dogs are prone to fear snapping.

Zully has adjusted beautifully and is an absolute love. She is a striking fawn colored dog, with a black muzzle. She appears to be largely Pug, but has subtle facial nuances of Beagle, that feature an elongated muzzle, and fewer facial and forehead wrinkles. The Beagle input into Zully's DNA strengthens her breathing apparatus and she has a better chance of avoiding the breathing problems that plague the Pug breed.

At 24 pounds, Zully has a compact muscular frame, with short legs. She could stand to lose a couple pounds through nutritious diet and exercise. She has a low to moderate energy level and requires at least one to two daily leash walks. She has a propensity toward gaining weight and is an avid snacker, so Adopters will need to pay attention to her portions and go slow with the high calorie "love treats".

Zully has a pretty easy going temperament. She would be a great choice for a single or couple who enjoy the consummate companion dog. She loves attention and affection, and could easily accommodate a couch potato lifestyle, as well as a moderately active one as a leisurely walking buddy. She could easily join a multi-dog home with other medium energy friendly dogs, and she may do well with cats after proper introduction.

Zully could be happy in a home with older children, but toddlers might overwhelm her. As an older dog she is well past the puppy stage and could easily adapt to city apartment living, or she could Embrace a slow-movin' Country Bumpkin lifestyle. As long as Zully gets her TLC, she'd be happy just about anywhere.

As an owner surrender, Zully has good house manners and is housetrained and crate trained. Adopters are expected to have patience and troubleshoot the occasional accident that might occur as Zully transitions to a new routine. She is also a good traveler, although, a car safety harness will go a long way in keeping Zully in her designated seat and not in the Driver's lap.

Zully is in excellent health and has been spayed. She has been vaccinated for rabies and DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza and coronavirus). She has had the 4snap test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been microchipped and dewormed.
