ADOPTED

SUNNY

When we first saw Sunny 's shelter picture, we thought that Arnold Schwarzenegger must have misplaced his Min Pin. Seriously, this boy has been pumping some iron! We expected a tough guy persona, but were charmed by his infectious joie de vivre!

Sunny came to us from a large, overcrowded Animal Control Shelter, that asked us for help with his placement. At the age of four, he had been found roaming the city streets by Animal Control Officers, although he certainly did not look like he had missed too many meals. After some initial shelter shock, Sunny's Min Pin bravado took over and he turned on his wily charms. When Sunny arrived at our country bumpkin rescue, he was all smiles and tail wags.

Sunny is extremely large for a Min Pin, almost twice the size of the breed standard. He arrived at a stout 25 pounds, but now has shed some of the bulk, and has a more streamlined, 19 pound physique. He has a short reddish-tan coat with a black muzzle. Sunny has a unique look, and alot of command presence.

Sunny has adjusted beautifully to foster care, and seems to enjoy the company of other dogs. He has a neutral vibe that adapts easily to the dog pack, and he would rather play than stir up a ruckus. Sunny approaches other dogs with that macho alpha thang, but then moves on quickly to a play invitation. He could easily join a multi-dog home, with other energetic, well trained, playful dogs.

Sunny has the outgoing personality that makes for a great family dog, because he does not play favorites. He will charm everyone, and will greet house guests warmly after being given proper time to warm up. He would be a fine addition to an active family with older kids, who are all on the same page about his training and exercises needs. Also, he could be a wonderful walking companion to an active single or couple, whose lifestyle would be enhanced by a feisty companion dog.

Min Pins are majestic little creatures, affectionately known as the "King of the Toys". They are full of personality and panache, and attract owners who become devoted, even fanatical, about breed loyalty! On the other hand, Min Pins are not for everyone. They are high energy, tenacious dogs, bred to hunt vermin. This carnal instinct manifests with a mighty courage that needs to be channelled into productive activities.

Exercise, discipline and leadership are the keys to successful Min Pin ownership. It's very easy to "love" these dogs into neurotic messes if their exercise and training needs are ignored. Sunny is brimming with natural confidence, and is a great candidate for obedience work. He has already grasped some of the basics of the Canine Good Citizen program, and we recommend that adopters continue him on this path to realize his greatest potential.

Sunny has great house manners, and is housetrained and crate trained. He is neutered, has been vaccinated for rabies and DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus). He has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been dewormed and is on flea, tick and heartworm prevention. He has been microchipped and dewormed.
