STARFIRE'S PUPPIES

In early December, our contacts at NYC ACC asked us to take in a family of Miniature Pinscher/Jack Russell Terrier mixes, including a very pregnant Mama named Starfire. We made an emergency trip to New York to retrieve Starfire, fearful that she would give birth in the shelter, and expose the pups to all kinds of upper respiratory viruses. When we arrived, we discovered that her owners had also surrendered two one-year-old puppies and a 6 month old puppy. Peaches, Patches and Apollo have all been adopted, and now Starfire's puppies are three months old and ready to make their way in a brave new world.

The five puppies were born on December 5th, 2017, one day after they arrived! It was a hectic delivery. Starfire gave birth to five beautiful, healthy pups: Morgana, Celeste, Loki, Arwen and Brody. (Brody has been adopted). There are three females and two males. Mama Starfire is a black and tan Miniature Pinscher mix, and we suspect that Papa was a Jack Russell Terrier. At full growth, the puppies will range from 9 to 11 pounds. Currently they are 3 to 4 pounds. The pups are all tricolor some with black base color, and some with white base color.

Celeste

Starfire's pups are undaunted by this unwieldy rescue process that they have endured so far. They have outstanding temperaments: friendly, fiesty and fearless. They have the absolute best qualities in both breeds, that are well known to be two of our favorites. They are destined to become "Kings and Queens of the Toys."

At just three months old, these youngsters are a blank canvas for folks who know what a sacred responsibility it is to raise a young puppy. The puppies are in a critical stage of their social development, and their interactions with the world must continue to be extremely positive. These pups will be best served by adopters who have successfully raised a puppy before and are prepared for the rewarding mayhem that comes with the miracle.

Morgana

Loki

The pups have amazing potential, and could easily join a home with older kids, who have been taught to be gentle with small dogs. They could join a multi-dog home, with older dogs who are well behaved and tolerant of puppy hijinks. The pups are high energy, so senior dogs and cats might not be a good fit. Adopters considering a pup as an only dog, must prepare for some mild separation anxiety during the first few nights transition.

So far the pups are crate training nicely, but are still to young to be fully housetrained. Adopters must be patient and continue the process with consistency. They are beginning to walk on lead, and are responding well to all sorts of positive human and dog interaction. They are in good health, and have been Vetted, vaccinated, dewormed and microchipped. Their ears and tails are au natural and will stay that way.

If you are interested in any of Starfire's pups, please write to Denise@eskiesonline.com or call/text Denise at 860-908-9738 for more info.
