We hope somebody steps up to adopt Simi before we highjack him for ourselves! Our dapper little dude is a pistol. This tiny, four year old and four pound Chihuahua was recently dumped by his owners for reasons that clearly indicate human cluelessness. It has been our experience that the Toy Breeds are some of the most misunderstood and mishandled dogs that come our way. Indeed, it takes the pinnacle of human genius to screw up a four pound dog.

Simi, assessing the situation upon arrival

Simi came to us from a high kill animal control facility in which owner surrendered dogs face the needle within 48 hours of intake...unless they attract the attention of a rescue group. Simi's bum luck in catching the obligatory kennel cough brought him onto our radar, so we invited the little guy to the country. After a course of antibiotics, he was as good as new.

When we first met Simi, he wasn't feeling very well and seemed a little out of sorts. As he healed, his personality popped like a diminutive firecracker. Simi is extremely high energy and runs around like a little lightning bolt. He's quite comical to look at, and has a pair of the longest, spidery legs that we've ever seen on a Chihuahua. He has amazing jumping ability, and is not above dive-bombing into your lap when you least expect it. Also, we should warn that Simi is a lip and nose nibbler. He loves to give kisses and gets very, very excited! Simi is a highly lovable little boy and seemed destined to be carried in his own swell purse, dressed in snappy couture.

Simi is a confident little boy, and has navigated the canine politics in his foster home with ease. He has bonded with his new Chihuahua and Min Pin housemates, and could easily join a multi-small-dog or feline household, with proper introduction.

Simi is an adult dog, who is well past the chaotic puppy years. He is ready to join the home of moderately active adults, who will provide the leadership and mental stimulation that he needs. He strikes us as a very needy little boy. He loves to be with his people and is not a fan of time alone. He will moan and cry if left alone for long periods, but is the ultimate lap dog, and will be a faithful companion to folks willing to take charge. Simi loves to be part of the action, and travels beautifully. He is the kind of dog that you can cart around anywhere. He can be suspicious of strangers, but adapts nicely to change once he trusts his pack leader.

Simi and has good house manners and is house and paper trained, although adopters should be prepared to troubleshoot the occasional accident that may occur during his transition to a new routine. Simi is in excellent health, and has been recently neutered. He has been vaccinated for rabies and DA2PP (distemper, adrenovirus, parvo and parainfluenza), and Canine Influenza. He has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been microchipped and dewormed.
