ADOPTED

SIMBA

Simba recently joined our Rescue, from beleaguered owners, whom he had managed to thoroughly flummox. Simba was much beloved by his family, and yet it seemed to us that not all family members were on the same page about the rigorous discipline required to raise a Canine Good Citizen from a randy puppy.

We jumped at the chance to welcome this glamour mug into our rescue. Simba reminds us of the Eskie beauty and grace that started this Rescue ball of confusion, 20 years ago. Two years old, Simba is a robust standard sized American Eskimo Dog, who weighs in at roughly 31 pounds. He could easily get up to 35 pounds with nutritious diet and exercise. He has a lanky athletic physique, built for Agility, and a lush, flat silky coat. He does not have the dense undercoat that can be a grooming challenge with some Eskies.

Simba appears a bit reticent at first meeting. He is typical Eskie: he loves loves loves his family, but strangers need to take it slow and earn his respect. He would be the perfect companion for savvy Eskie folks, who are willing to continue Simba on a spirited exercise and obedience regime. He would be best suited to an active single or couple, who have the time to devote to his exercise and training needs. We'd like to steer clear of extremely young children and cats since he may be spooked by the attentions of either. Simba has successfully cohabitated with several other dogs in foster care, but he is not a fan of an over-the-top high-energy dog who gets in his face.

Simba has made great strides in obedience training. We have started him on a Canine Good Citizenship program and he responds well to positive rewards and leadership training techniques. He has amazing potential, and could easily be a brilliant agility champion, or excel at obedience competition trials. The sky's the limit for Simba in the hands of motivated adopters.

Simba is in good health, has been neutered, and is up to date on routine vaccinations. He has tested negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He is house trained and crate trained, although Adopters will need to understand that rescue dogs lose some of their house training chops, as they move from place to place, so appropriate expectations are in order, as well as willingness to troubleshoot an accident or two, during Simba's transition to a new routine.
