PRECIOUS

Our tiny, 15 pound Precious is a gentle, glorious soul, who needs a warm lap and loving adopter to snuggle with. She was recently surrendered by her owners to an overcrowded animal control shelter because Mr. Stork was bringing a new baby. It's a familiar story!

Precious is just the kind of cute cuddle bug that plays understudy until the real baby shows up. We were not surprised to learn, from a recent survey of top urban shelters, that Mr. Stork is one of the top three reasons that owners give up their dogs.

Sweet Precious was about to be placed on the Euthanasia List, because she become frightened and nervous in the stressful shelter environment. Also, she contracted an upper respiratory infection and could not be placed in the adoption ward. We took her immediately, and administered the brief antibiotic course necessary to her recovery. Precious has snapped back beautifully, and has captured everyone's heart.

Precious is a movie star mix of fluffball tiny breeds, but seems to be primarily Maltese, as reported by her owner. She also favors the Shih Tzu, and seems to have the corresponding plucky, confident temperament. Her natural coat is wavy and long, but was thoroughly matted, so we had her groomed to a short puppy cut. Her coat has a slight wave to it and she seems to be low shedding. Precious will require a couple of professional grooming visits each year, and she needs a Tip-Top, patient Groomer capable of handling nervous little girls during the face clipping.

Precious is an extremely friendly little Diva, once she has been given time to approach on her own terms. She may take exception to the occasional stranger who pushes their affections on her before she is ready. Precious would be a great companion to an active single or couple, who have alot of time for her. She becomes very bonded to her people and loves to be close by. She is happy to chase a ball and romp in the yard, but then cuddle up for a nap once playtime is done.

Precious enjoys canine company, and is an equitable housemate. She shares her Foster Dad's lap with a cantankerous Chihuahua, Tank, who would try the patience of Mahatma Ghandi. Precious is one eloquent negotiator.

Precious could easily join a multi-dog home, and may be okay with cats. She tends to bark initially, with disbelief, but can be encouraged to settle down for the long haul. Proper introduction and training could foster peaceful feline relations, but adopters should have the patience and persistence to weather the initial storm.

At the age of three, Precious is a bit behind the curve in her obedience work. Obviously she has been spoiled like the little baby that she was impersonating, so adopters would be wise to follow a basic obedience course to keep her in balance, and in touch with her glorious canine roots. Precious is very eager to please and responsive to positive training techniques.

Precious has great house manners and is housetrained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident as Precious transitions to a new routine. She has been spayed, and has been vaccinated for rabies and DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus). She has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been microchipped and dewormed.
