ADOPTED

OREO

Our handsome boy, Oreo Truffle, is a natural athelete! He is another magnificent beauty with a tough luck story, a rescue statistic at just one year old. Oreo was surrendered by owners to NYCACC, because they couldn't afford vet basic care. He found himself incarcerated in the City pound, facing an uncertain fate.

Oreo was one of the lucky ones, whose good looks and charisma charmed his caretakers and evaluators, so that they reached out to us on his behalf. His shelter behavior evaluations were great, and he made fast friends with all handlers. Even the vet staff gave him rave reviews as he endured their relentless scrutiny. Oreo's luck ran out when he contracted the kennel cough bug that runs rampant through many city shelters. Once his URI kicked in, he was booted from the adoption program and put on the "At Risk" List.

When we saw Oreo's shelter photo, we knew that there is untapped greatness in him. This dog is destined to be an agility or obedience champion. At the very least, he could become a Canine Good Citizen. Oreo is likely a mix of graceful breeds, perhaps Labrador Retriever and Border Collie. He has a large dog height and stance, and is slightly underweight at 50 pounds. Oreo could easily gain 5 to 10 pounds and be at an ideal weight of 60. Oreo will be a superstar one day very soon.

Oreo is a stunning dog with a tall graceful physique and striking color pattern. He is black-based, with white markings including white "socks" and a wide white stripe down his chest. He also has a black a freckled pattern on the white patches. Oreo has Labrador high energy and need for activity that provides mental stimulation. In personality and temperment, he seems much more Retriever than than Herder. He is eager to please, attentive, and works hard during his training rituals. Oreo is the star of our Training program, and the obedience work comes easy to him. He eagerly works for treats or praise. Adopters will have a blast as they continue Oreo's training regimen. Obedience work is the ideal activity to challenge his mind and body.

Oreo is a high energy older puppy. Just one year old, he needs a good deal of exercise to keep him calm and happy. He would be an enthusiastic running buddy, and would love outdoors activities like hiking or camping. If underexercised, Oreo will become restless and frustrated. The active lifestyle of a single or couple would be the best fit, although, a high energy, active family with older kids, would also thrill him, just as long as the family schedule allows adequate time for his training needs.

In demeanor, Oreo is a dreamboat. He is simply irresistible, and turns heads as he prances down the street. He has no stranger danger. In fact, he thrives on human touch and affection. He is great with older kids, but toddlers may be overwhelmed with his energy. Likewise, he may be too much "dog" for the average cat.

Oreo is in excellent health, and will be neutered this week. He has been vaccinated for Rabies and DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus). He has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been microchipped and dewormed.
