ADOPTED

MAUDE

Our stunning Maude is an gracious gal, who charms everyone she meets! This large, lanky lady came to us from the New York Animal Care Centers, where she found herself, after a brief run as a city stray in Brooklyn. Maude was on a stray hold, while shelter workers frantically tried to reach her owner, but sadly no one could be found.

Maude was beloved at the Brooklyn Shelter, and her popularity extended widely to the online community. She had so many folks pulling for her, but as an older girl of six years, her adoption options were limited. Maude was overlooked, as Shelter adopters scooped up the younger pups. After a lengthy Shelter foster home stay, Maude was transferred to us, so that we could find her forever family.

Maude is a comical girl, who first exudes a shy girl persona that quickly transforms into a fanciful play vibe. She is a powerful, large dog at 92 pounds, but her vibe is so laid back that she is easy to manage. At first glance, her tall physique and brindle coloring suggest that she is a brindle Mastiff, which we don't see in Rescue very often. They sport the characteristic brown brindle pattern coat, and long floppy ears. Maude's coat is short, glossy, and requires minimal grooming. We suspect that Maude may have some Boxer her DNA mix, as well.

Maude would make a great companion to an active single or couple who love to walk, hike or run. She is a natural athlete, and loves to spend time outdoors. Six years young, Maude is well past the puppy destructive stage, and her Foster Mom reports that her house manners are stellar. She is a dog who could quietly amuse herself while left alone during the work day. She is extremely smart, and has responded well to her obedience work. Maude has passed all the parts of the Canine Good Citizenship test. and motivated adopters could easily have her certified.

Maude is a friendly girl, who likes everyone, and has not shown any "stranger danger." She would be fine with older kids, but toddlers might overstimulate her. She could thrive as an only dog, or could join a quiet home with another calm, laid back dog, assuming proper introduction and supervision is provided. Maude is generally good with most dogs, but she does not care for ill-mannered dogs, who do not respect her boundaries. She will readily rebuke a dog who gets in her face. Also, Maude has a high prey drive, and would not be an appropriate choice for home with small dogs or cats.

As a low energy Mastiff, Maude is easy to entertain, because she doesn't require a high energy daily workout. She loves the outdoors, and would be a great walking or hiking companion, but afterwards, she will be content to nap by the fire or watch TV with her people. Maude is happy as long as she is front and center in her person's life.

Maude has good house manners, and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect the occasional accident as she transitions to a new home. Maude is in excellent health, and is spayed. She has had routine vaccinations and health screenings, and has been cleared by our vet for adoption.
