Our lovely Martha is a grand ol' gal, who craves love and attention. She has charmed everyone she has met, including the ladies at our Vet's office. How could such a sweet soul wind up homeless and at risk at NYC ACC? At the age of seven, this unlucky lady is a rescue veteran.

Martha was found as a stray in a bustling Urban locale, and was quickly whisked off by Animal Control Officers to NYC ACC. She maintained her cool in a process that would leave many other dogs unhinged. Martha proved herself to be very even-tempered, and even though her circumstances were dire, her sweetness and even tempered demeanor prevailed. Martha's behavior evaluations were outstanding, and she earned a spot in the adoption program, but sadly, Martha's story is familiar: she was passed over for adoption in favor of the current crop of puppies.

Martha has classic Hound good looks. She is a tricolor Beagle with sattlebag markings. Beagle lovers will adore Martha's personality. She has all of the sweetness and light that this lovable breed is known for: qualities that have rendered them a great choice for families over the years. Martha is a medium sized dog, now at 29 pounds. She came to us overweight at 36, but we've already shaved off those extra 7 pounds, to bring her to her current, healthy weight.

Martha would be a great addition to an adult home, or a family with older children, who have been taught to handle dogs gently. She is outgoing and friendly to strangers, once she has been given the courtesy of a slow warm-up time. Martha can appear shy at first meeting, but she warms quickly and then is very devoted to her people.

Martha is a mild mannered lady, with clear scent-hound instincts, who needs a couple of brisk daily leash walks, as well as lots of attention and focused playtime. She is a medium energy dog, who has a chill vibe, and could just as easily enjoy a nap by the fire, as a brisk leash walk. Martha has responded well to the basics of Canine Good Citizen Training, as well as leadership and positive reinforcement techniques. She needs adopters willing to continue her training, and help her realize her amazing potential. Martha is a typical working dog, in that, she needs both mental stimulation and physical activity to keep her calm and balanced.

Martha is in excellent health, and has been spayed. She has just had a full dental procedure, which cost her 5 teeth. She has had pre-op bloodwork, which will serve as an an important baseline for adopters going forward. She has been vaccinated for rabies and DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus). She has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been microchipped and dewormed.
