LUCKY

Our Lucky is an impossibly cute, cuddly little girl.  Four years old, she was found roaming the streets in Brooklyn, New York, and was scooped up by Animal Control Officers, and deposited in NYC ACC.  Lucky wasn't pleased with her accommodations, and did not respond well to her new surroundings.

After two weeks, no bereaved owner came to claim Lucky, and her stray hold expired.  By that time, her behavior had deteriorated to the point where shelter workers felt they were not seeing her best self.  Lucky was transferred to us, so that she could unwind in a friendlier environment, and we could better evaluate her true nature before adoption.  We were delighted to snatch up this beauty, so that we could find her a forever home.

It's a shocker that Lucky should wind up homeless and alone at just four years old.  Shelter staff pegged her as a mix of Shih Tzu and West Highlind White Terrier.  We're not quite sure about her breed mix, but we're darn sure there's a lot of whole lot of Terrier going on.  Lucky is a total love, with real lap dog potential. She doesn't seem to have the over the top energy that we see in some Terrier mixes or Shih Tzus.  Instead, Lucky approaches cautiously and waits for an invitation to smother her person with kisses!  She is an affectionate girl, who bonds quickly, once she trusts.

At 14 pounds, Lucky has the characteristic Terrier thick set physique, but her shortened muzzle makes a case for Shih Tzu DNA.  Her coat is kind of a bizarre mix of long wispy pieces and short smooth texture, that suggests the breeding of a long hair and short hair dog.  Her coat is smooth to the touch, and she has tan patch markings on white, with a smidge of black laced through her muzzle fur.

Lucky would be a great choice for an active single or couple who enjoy a medium energy Terrier type companion dog.  She would be an enthusiastic companion on walks or hikes, and she loves to travel, and to be part of the action.  Lucky could also join an active family with older kids, as long as everyone can commit to her training and exercise schedule. We would like to steer clear of toddlers: we feel that they may overwhelm her. The key to Lucky is adequate exercise and mental stimulation to keep her from wallowing in the boredom and frustration that leads to behavior problems.

Lucky is a social girl, and could easily join a home with other well trained, energetic dogs.  We have not exposed her to cats, but the terrier-cat vibe can be tricky.  She has begun to grasp the basics of leadership and obedience work, and has passed a few of the Canine Good Citizen tests.  Lucky has the potential to excel in this program.

Lucky is in excellent health, and has been recently spayed.  She has been vaccinated for rabies and DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus). She has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been microchipped and dewormed.
