Our lovable Louie is a happy-go-lucky fellow, who is content to snuggle up in his special person's lap. His owners gave up on this six year old, giving no particular reason, just dumped him off in NYCACC. As an owner surrendered dog, Louie had only have 48 hours to impress shelter staff and volunteers to start networking with rescue on his behalf, before he was eligible for euthanasia. Certainly such a lovely, little boy deserves better.

Louie has that peppy effervescence that Terrier lovers cherish. He is an extremely good natured dog, and has earned rave behavior evaluations. He made a seamless transition to foster care, and treats every change as an exciting new adventure. Louie appears to be a miniature Schnauzer, with perhaps a scosche of another Terrier breed in the mix, possibly Cairn. This dog has a dynamite playful quality and is quite affectionate. He is a great lap dog, but will manage to get into folks' buisness as much as he can. This sweet little guy loves absolutely everyone: the more attention he gets the better he likes it.

Louie is a stocky boy, at 27 pounds. He has the wiry Schnauzer coat, in gray shades, with some white markings. He doesn't appear to shed much, and has a hefty frame that looks like he could lose a pound or two. He's very well behaved, and tolerates a lot of handling, so grooming should be a breeze.

Louie has that one in a million temperament that makes him an ideal family dog. He could easily join a home with older kids, who are used to handling small dogs, or he could join the active lifestyle of a single, couple, or recent retiree. He also does well with all dogs, and could do well with cats. Louie loves attention, and doesn't require alot of exercise. A couple of leisurely leash walks each day, in addition to frequent potty breaks should do the trick.

Louie is in good shape, now that we have identified a few food sensitivities and a low thyroid condition. He is currently on Zignature, Turkey formula, limited ingredient food, available from chewy.com. His skin and coat has seen tremendous improvement since we've switched his diet, and his current state of health should be easy to maintain.

Louie has good house manners, and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during his transition to a new home. He has been vaccinated for rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus), and canine flu. He has been boostered as needed. He has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been dewormed, and microchipped.
