KODI

Our pretty boy, Kodi, is a miniature American Eskimo Dog, who came to our attention via NYC ACC, after he was brought in by Animal Control officers as a city stray. We have come to learn a bit of Kodi's backstory: his original owners acquired him as a puppy, and cared for him lovingly, until the baby came. Unable to manage an active Eskie and a baby, they opted to rehome Kodi with a family friend. Next, Kodi escaped from his new home, and wound up foraging city streets for his next meal, until Animal Control Officers were called to transfer him to NYC ACC.

While in the chaotic shelter environment, Kodi's Vet observed mild seizure activity. He was transferred to us for a medical work-up. He has now been completely vetted, and is on a two times daily dose of phenobarbital, which controls the seizures nicely. At the age of four, Kodi has an excellent prognosis, and a care plan that is extremely manageable. Otherwise, he is in excellent health: all blood values were within normal limits.

Kodi is a gentle, sweet soul, who can be handled by absolutely anyone. He's very attached to his Foster Family, and loves to perch on top of the sofa back, so that he can provide a plush neck rest for his Foster Mom. Kodi loves to be front and center in the family action, but his presence is not overwhelming. He loves to snuggle side by side. He is medium energy (for an Eskie!), and requires one to two brisk daily leash walks, as well as focused playtime.

Kodi could easily join an active family with older children. He is outgoing and friendly to all, and will not choose favorites in a family dynamic. He can be trusted around strangers and seems to relish all human affection. He could also join an active single or couple, and would be a great choice for a novice dog owner willing to learn basic training techniques.

It seems obvious that Kodi was much beloved in his original home. He is extremely sociable, and his temperament is amazing. Kodi is very well behaved, and has excellent house manners. He is house trained and crate trained, although adopters should be prepared to troubleshoot an accident or two, as Kodi transitions to a new routine.

Kodi is in overall good health, but is slightly underweight at 15 pounds. He could easily flesh out to 20 pounds, with healthy diet and exercise. Kodi has been neutered, and is up to date on routine vaccinations. He has tested negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. We have treated the seizure condition, and have provided a manageable maintenance routine. He willingly takes his pills twice a day in a piece of cheese or liverwurst. He has had full diagnostic blood work, which will serve adopters as a baseline going forward.
