FLUFFY

Our little Fluffy has a whole lotta chutzpah! Shih Tzu lovers will find no surprise in Fluffy's larger-than-life persona. After all, a dog breed designed by Japanese Emperors to guard the Inner Sanctum has to have some Huff and Puff! And, Fluffy doesn't disappoint: he is a magnificent spirit in a 17 pound fluffy package.

Just four years old, Fluffy came to us from NYCACC, after his owners surrendered him to the chaotic shelter system. No doubt, Fluffy found his new shelter accommodations intimidating, and he seemed shy and fearful during his intake and vetting process. As an owner surrendered dog, Fluffy was at risk for euthanasia, in part because his coat was such a horrid mess that he wasn't deemed presentable for adoption. He was rerouted to us so that we could provide the TLC, and allow him a chance to unwind before making any behavior determinations.

Fluffy blended beautifully into our active rescue. He has a vibrant personality that Shih Tzu aficionados will recognize and appreciate. Fluffy has a tiny bit of the Napoleon complex, in that he will mouth off to larger dogs as though he actually has some girth and power behind the bark! He will likely get himself jammed up in dog park with strange dogs, if allowed off leash. Fluffy gets along pretty well with dogs his size, although he is an alpha wannabe and likes to be the big shot in charge.

Fluffy would be the ideal companion for an active single or couple. Three years old, he has lived with children before, but his owners reported that he can be persnickety about his food. Although we have not seen that behavior while he has been in foster care, we recommend that Fluffy's adopters will need to be prepared to feed him and leave him be. He is old enough be alone during a workday, but he will demand lots of attention when his family is home. Fluffy loves to be the center of attention, and thrives on human interaction. He's not going to be happy if he is ignored. He could easily join a multi-dog home, if the dog chemistry works, and he could do well with patient, dog savvy cats. He's probably not the best fit for a home with babies or toddlers, whose attentions might overwhelm him.

Fluffy has good house manners and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during his transition to a new home. He is in optimal health, and has been recently spayed. He has been vaccinated for rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus), and canine flu. He has been boostered as needed. She has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been dewormed, and is on preventatives.
