CODY

Our gorgeous Cody is nothing short of magnificent! He is a lean, graceful athelete with a magnanimous personality. Cody is a good natured two year old boy, who made quite a few friends along his rescue journey. He loves everyone, and there is not a cantankerous bone in his body. He came to us recently from a rural Animal Shelter, where he was dumped by his owners. Obviously, they had no clue how to handle a magnificent Scent Hound.

We jumped at the chance to help this handsome youngster find his next true love in life. Cody is an impressive Treeing Walker Coonhound, a unique scent hound, bred from the American and English Foxhounds. Cody is a large dog with ALOT of energy. At 75 pounds, he is lean and muscular, yet swift on his feet. He seems a little antsy to us, a quality that we see sometimes in hardwired working or hunting dogs, who haven't been utilized to their strengths. As a Scent Hound, Cody needs a good deal of mental stimulation as well physical exercise.

Cody could join just about any kind of active home, provided everyone is on the same page about meeting his exercise needs. He is not the kind of dog that could be depended upon to babysit the kids, or be relegated to the backyard to amuse himself. He has a low threshold for boredom and frustration, and needs an active lifestyle to keep him focused and challenged. We could see him as an only dog, and great companion to an active single or couple. He could also join a multi-dog household, with a well trained canine pack. We could see Cody as an attentive family dog, if everybody in the family is willing to work on his obedience and exercise. We have not had him around cats, but his demeanor seems tolerant, and he could possibly coexist nicely with dog savvy cats.

Cody is an obedience natural. He would excel in any of the AKC field trial competitions, and the more outdoors action he gets, the better he will behave. Two years old, he is an adult dog, past the chaotic puppy period, but still with a bit of that impertinent puppy quality. Cody has done well in his obedience training and seems very eager to please, and not as hard to focus as some scent hounds can be. He is very food motivated and will work gratefully for praise or treats. He responds well to both leadership and positive reinforcement techniques. Cody is doing well on his leash manners, and is becoming easier to handle as time passes.

Cody has good house manners, but can become frantic if underexercised. He would do well in a country setting where he has great proximity to a lot of walking trails. He loves to be outside and loves to be in the midst of the action. Cody is house trained and crate trained, although, adopters must have appropriate expectations, and forgive the occasional accident that may occur as Cody adapts to a new environment.

Cody is in excellent health and has been neutered. He has been vaccinated for rabies and DA2PP (distemper, adrenovirus, parvo and parainfluenza). He has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been microchipped and dewormed.
