ADOPTED

BUDDY

Handsome Buddy came to our attention from another rescue, after his owners had surrendered this nine year old, along with his housemate. The rescue process has been quite a shock to Buddy's system. When we first picked him up he was extremely shy and quiet, but seemed to go with the flow pretty well on the long drive back to a Connecticut.

Over the course of the last few weeks, Buddy has warmed up beautifully, in part thanks to some of our other fosters, who have included him in their pack. He is thoroughly enjoying the companionship of the pack.

Buddy is a stunning, large miniature American Eskimo Dog, and at 25 pounds, he is a medium sized dog, at an optimal weight. He has a beautiful, full Eskie coat, with a light undercoat and some faint biscuit markings. Our vet places him at about 8 years old based on standard evaluation markers: teeth, eyes and energy level. His coat is in beautiful shape, and is soft to touch. As an Eskie, he does shed a good deal, and blows his coat a couple times a year.

Buddy has a submissive temperament, and he is shy and avoids situations that unnerve him. He would make an ideal companion for an active single or couple who have some Eskie experience, and have the patience to allow Buddy to warm up slowly at his own pace. We don't think Buddy would be happy in a bustling family environment, with lots of people coming and going. He seems to prefer solitude and one to one connection with doting humans. We think he would thrive in a multi-dog home with one or two other balanced dogs, because he seems to pick up his cues from a stable pack. He would also do well in a feline home.

Buddy has done well with his obedience work, and knows most of his commands. He is well on the way to becoming a Canine Good Citizen. Motivated adopters can easily take him the rest of the way. Eskies tend to relish their obedience training, and it is one of the best ways to channel their considerable intelligence, and provide much needed mental stimulation. Obedience work is a wonderful way to bond with Buddy, as he is both treat and praise motivated, and very easy to handle.

Buddy has good house manners and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during his transition to a new home. He is in optimal health, and is recently neutered. He has been vaccinated for rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus). He has been boostered as needed. He has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis.
