BAILEY

Our Bailey is a beguiling, timid girl, who needs a strong hand to help boost her confidence. She was found alone in her home after her owner died, and neighbors turned her into NYC ACC. Just one year old, Bailey joined the ranks of the disenfranchised and homeless rescue dogs. Bailey was found in an extremely emaciated condition, and Shelter vets were quick to tend to her health. We were delighted when our Shelter contacts transfered Bailey to our care.

Bailey is a shy, gentle soul, who takes a few minutes to warm up to new people. She has adapted nicely to her foster home, and seems to really enjoy human companionship and touch, once she settles in. One year old, Bailey is an older puppy, who still needs a good deal of exercise to work out her yayas, at least two to three brisk leash walks daily, as well as ongoing obedience work to build her confidence.

Bailey has a very graceful physique, looks rather deer-like. She has a lean athletic build, and is extremely graceful. At just 36 pounds, Bailey possibly has some Sighthound in her DNA cocktail, most likely Whippet, due to her slight features and arched spine. Shelter workers suggest that she may be part Labrador Retriever. Her coat is a caramel-gold, with tuxedo white markings on her chest and toes. She has delicate features and an elongated muzzle. Bailey's ears seem confused: sometimes they stand up, sometimes they flop over. In temperament, she strikes us as Sighthound, since she is very timid, submissive and extremely agile. We recommend that adopters be very cautious in allowing Bailey off leash, until a full bond has formed.

Bailey is a sensitive girl, and she would thrive in an active adult home in which adopters have time to devote to her exercise and training needs. She may be overwhelmed by busy families with small children, but she could easily join a multi-dog home, and would likely do well with cats. Bailey has good house manners and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during her transition to a new home.

Bailey is in good health, and has gained some healthy weight, but should probably continue to put on another couple of pounds. She would be ideal at 40 pounds, so that a thin layer of fat covers her skeletal structure. She is thriving on a grain-free kibble now, with added grain-free wet food, and a forkful of canned salmon daily, for its omega fat health benefits. She has been recently spayed, and has been vaccinated for rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus), and canine flu. She has been boostered as needed. She has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been dewormed, and microchipped.
