ANNA SUI

Our robust girl, Anna Sui, is a whole lotta dog! She came to us from the Town of Hempstead shelter on Long Island, after she'd been found as a stray in the neighborhood. Judging from Anna Sui's zaftig figure, she could not have been a stray for long, because she certainly has not missed too many meals. Nonetheless, no grieving owner came to collect her, so she was transferred to us.

Anna Sui is a compact, muscular mix of Pug and Dachshund. At 25 pounds, she has a stocky, muscular build with the characteristic short legs, paddle feet and elongated spine of a Dachshund. However, we also see the square head, fawn coloring and black muzzle of the Pug. This crossbreeding has produced a strong, robust physical structure that is free of the back and breathing issues that plague both purebreds. We hear that designer breed enthusiasts are calling this mix a "Dawg."

We just love this Dawg! She has a fantastic personality, and has made lightning progress in her training program. When we first met Anna, she was slightly wary of strangers, and was not at all shy about expressing her opinion in inappropriate situations. Now, after some basic leadership and consistent training, Anna accompanies her Foster Dad on errands to Home Depot, Tractor Supply, etc, and is now welcome wherever she goes. Anna is accepting of strangers and is quick to submit for belly rubs. In the hands of motivated adopters, she could easily earn her Canine Good Citizen certification.

Anna Sui would be ideally suited to an active single or couple, who provide a fair amount of exercise and leadership. Anna is lively dog, and needs a couple of brisk leash walks each day, as well as consistent work on her obedience commands. She has a partial dose of Scent Hound DNA and requires mental, as well as, physical stimulation to maintain balanced behavior. Anna Sui could easily join another dog home with a pack that is balanced, socialized and well trained.

Anna Sui has good house manners and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during her transition to a new home. She is in optimal health, but should seem to lose 3 to 5 pounds through nutritious diet and exercise. Anna Sui has been spayed and vaccinated for rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus), and canine flu. She has been boostered as needed. She has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been dewormed, and microchipped.
